The Hardy Boyz, with Matt and Jeff Hardy, were the icons of the Attitude Era. Reinventing what the Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match was, they cemented themselves as one of the best tag teams in the company. With death-defying jumps and bone-cracking stunts, they captured the imagination of an entire generation. This is why the arena exploded when the duo returned to WrestleMania 33 in 2017. With their contracts expiring in AEW and a tag team match on the cards for WrestleMania XL, could we expect to see them back at WWE this year?

Matt Hardy’s contract expires this month, followed by Jeff Hardy’s

Jeff was the first to leave the WWE in 2009, followed by his brother Matt in 2010. The duo embarked on a journey that would see them in Impact Wrestling, where Matt would create Broken Matt Hardy. This character would revitalize their fame in the wrestling world. After returning to the WWE for a short stint, the duo signed on with Tony Khan and appeared in AEW.

Now, after two years on the roster, their contracts are expiring. While Matt has confirmed his is expiring in March 2024, Jeff’s will be expiring a bit later. Despite the duo having the same contract, Jeff was recently injured in a match that extended his contract. During an episode of The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, Matt addressed his contract with AEW. He said, “Nothing really new. No updates to be given. Just still conversing, still in the midst of negotiation, figuring out what’s going on. So no real updates on that, but thank you guys for asking and giving a s***.”

He also made it clear he has no intention of retiring from pro wrestling. Furthermore, Matt confirmed that negotiations are still ongoing; there could be a chance that the duo will stay back in AEW with a renewed contract. If not, the next possibility is the WWE.

How and why Jeff and Matt Hardy could return to the WWE

Currently, neither of the Hardys has been seen on AEW. Jeff is recovering from an injury sustained, thanks to Sammy Guevara. Fan speculation is that the brothers may leave AEW to appear at WrestleMania XL or the RAW after Mania. Taking to social media, Matt posted a clip from WrestleMania X8. This added fuel to the fire.
