Jeff Hardy came back to AEW programming after nearly a year of dealing with court proceedings. He was received well by the fans and was slated to compete in his first match back at Double or Nothing pay-per-view. Jeff teamed up with his brother Matt Hardy and Hook to battle Ethan Page and The Gunns.
However, one spot involving Jeff Hardy was negatively reprimanded by fans and critics alike. The spot saw Jeff Hardy supposedly slipping while attempting to do his famous ‘Whisper in the Wind’ move. Many panned Hardy for the perceived botch, however, Matt Hardy was not going to sit quietly.
Hardy revealed the truth that it was a planned spot, with the idea of getting Jeff all the attention and making him look like the big star he is. Moreover, it was to follow up with their teammate, Hook to ultimately do the finish and win the match for his team. Matt opened up about it during the latest edition of his “The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy” podcast.
Matt said, “So we were gonna highlight Jeff, let him be a big star. Let him go on a kicka** comeback, do all his stuff, and to transition to segue to getting Hook in there for doing the finish. That is why we implemented that Jeff Hardy slips on the Whisper in the Wind spot, to get Hook get in there and let Hook ultimately take the finish and get the win and get the rub by winning the match that includes Matt and Jeff Hardy.”
The spot surely got the fans talking a lot, but Matt cleared the air, so that there would be no doubt regarding Jeff Hardy’s in-ring acumen.
Jeff Hardy had a rough year but he looks better than ever
The Charismatic Enigma has been dealing with a lot of problems outside the squared circle for years now. Last year was no different, which is the reason he was off AEW programming for almost a year. Jeff Hardy was arrested for driving under the influence.
But the former WWE champion managed to overcome his personal demons. He came back to AEW in April 2023. Moreover, Jeff Hardy’s return match ended with him and his team ending in the winning column at Double or Nothing.

Also, with the air cleared regarding his current in-ring skills, all the doubts surrounding whether he still can do it should probably be gone now. Hardy is still as dynamic as he was and would prove to be an excellent opponent for the younger AEW talent.
