Did Jacob Fatu just steal the spotlight with his new finisher from an AEW star?

Jacob Fatu finally made his surprise debut for WWE on the June 21 episode of SmackDown, attacking Randy Orton, Kevin Owens, and Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes and joining the Bloodline. The impact of the Samoan Warewolf was therefore immediately felt. Even fans who did not know him before could immediately understand the prowess and potential of the superstar.

And he proved himself further with his vicious attacks on Paul Heyman, DIY, and the babyfaces Orton and Rhodes. He helped get rid of Paul Heyman with a triple powerbomb on the commentary table after the latter refused to recognize Solo Sikoa as his new Tribal Chief. Then he took out tag team champions DIY all by himself before helping the Bloodline stand tall against Rhodes and Orton at SmackDown.

But it was his finisher against the tag team champs that caught the attention of Bloodline’s online mentor, Rikishi. He praised Fatu as well as his finisher, the ‘Implant DDT.’ But do you know that Fatu actually took the finisher from another WWE veteran? One that recently appeared with Edge at a major AEW PPV. Still no idea? Well, it’s none other than Gangrel.

In the Rikishi Fatu Off the Top podcast, Rikishi revealed that Gangrel expressed his awe at Fatu when he hit his finisher. He said, “He’s finished that he hit dead center of the ring was of course the Impaler DDT. Shout out to the Vampire Warrior. Gangrel. That’s right. Yes, sir. Yes, sir. And man, he nailed it. And I talked to David about it. David was very happy, very proud. And he said he couldn’t have did a better job doing it. So he’s very honored that Jacob is hitting the DDT, which they call it implant DDT, but I just thought that was awesome. So he’s using that as his finish going forward.”

Despite being a veteran of the sport, the former WWE star still occupies a central role in wrestling currently. The 59-year-old struts his stuff for AEW sporadically as he gets involved with the likes of Adam Copeland(Edge), The Young Bucks, etc.

Gangrel continues to impress with recent AEW spell

Gangrel was part of the iconic trio called The Brood in WWE’s iconic Attitude Era. But nowadays, he often visits his former henchman, WWE Hall of Famer Adam Copeland, in All Elite Wrestling to lend a helping hand to those he finds deserving. Gangrel appeared on All Elite Wrestling last year at their Full Gear pay-per-view to help Sammy Guevara in the Elite Deletion match against Matt Hardy.

Then at AEW Double or Nothing 2024, he helped Adam Copeland win the match against Malakai Black. When it seemed that Black was close to victory, Gangrel appeared to help Copeland retain the title after knocking Malakai unconscious. At the moment, it is not certain if they will call the former Florida wrestler again to appear on AEW programming.

Tony Khan commented that he would love to have him as a regular in the programming. However, so far, the two parties haven’t come to an agreement. So maybe he will return to the WWE and possibly share a moment with Jacob Fatu! What do you think? Let us know in the comments.
