Last Friday, during the SmackDown broadcast, Jacob Fatu made his official WWE debut, joining Solo Sikoa and the members of The Bloodline. The 32-year-old wrestler destroyed Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Kevin Owens in his explosive appearance. And it sure did, as Karrion Kross even warned the SmackDown roster about the Samoan Werewolf.

Fatu’s mannerisms are reminiscent of those of the late Umaga, who too was a fearsome warrior capable of destroying his opponents while sending chills down the spines of others who dared stand against him. But it seems like there’s another non-Samoan professional wrestler that Fatu shares similarities with. One who is still an active superstar but is a part of WWE’s rival promotion, AEW. So who is it? Well, it’s none other than MJF.

During the Double or Nothing celebration, MJF made his return to AEW programming after having been away from the company since late 2023 due to an accumulation of injuries. Thankfully, MJF seems to have fully recovered from all the problems he accumulated throughout his reign as AEW World Champion and is already on the winning path against his feud with Rush. But how is MJF similar to Fatu? Let’s find out.

In a recent Twitter post, a user shared a major similarity between the two superstars that might’ve gone unnoticed. What is it? Well, it’s the symbolism of the wolf. After Maxwell Jacob Friedmann made his aforementioned return to the Jacksonville-based promotion, he described himself as the lone wolf. Something that was added to his AEW merchandise as a wolf has cemented itself in the center of his T-shirts. Similarly, Fatu is called the Samoan Werewolf, and the WWE merchandise of the former MLW champion too shares a similar wolf design.

But that’s not the only similarity that the top AEW star and Fatu share.

MJF and Jacob Fatu share a common origin story

Another similarity shared between the two is the fact that both superstars built themselves from scratch. In his return segment, MJF said he didn’t need anyone to become MJF, and that is absolutely true, as we have seen him be a bodyguard to Samoa Joe during his WWE run as he suffered in the lower card or completely away from television screens. But while Fatu did hail from a renowned pro wrestling dynasty, he decided not to get any help from his famous cousins, such as the Usos or Roman Reigns, to gain the fame that he earned during his run in MLW and the Indies circuit.

So can we see the two wolves ever face off soon? Well, that seems tough for now. While MJF had the chance to join the WWE, in an interview for Fox 5 New York, he talked about his decision to continue in All Elite Wrestling. The wrestler replied that the decision came easy for him. He said, “It was a very easy decision for me mainly because Tony Khan is paying me an exorbitant amount of money. But outside of that, I also believe in AEW; I believe that it’s where the best wrestle.”

Adding to that, the fact that he has an AEW tattoo on his leg proves his loyalty to the company. And Jacob Fatu just debuted for the Stamford-based promotion, so he will have many more years in his contract left. So fans will have to wait a long time before they ever get to see the wolves fight to prove who’s the best. What do you think about that matchup? What do you make of the similarity between MJF and Fatu’s merchandise? Let us know in the comments.
