The inaugural WrestleDream PPV from AEW sprung up a surprise as WWE Hall of Famer Edge made his debut. The Rated-R Superstar came out to help Sting and Darby Allin who were attacked by Christian Cage, Nick Wayne and Luchasaurus. His entry almost blew the roof off of the Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, Washington.

Edge has been a WWE fan favorite since the beginning of his career. His body of work, which spans over 20 years, has seen him win 11 World Championships in the promotion, making him one of the top names in the pro wrestling industry.

While an injury stalled his career for nearly a decade, Edge made his comeback to a deafening reception from the faithful at the 2020 Royal Rumble. Since then, for three years, The Master Manipulator has enthralled the fans with memorable matches, with his last being in his home city, Toronto, Canada, in August, just a week after he celebrated 25 years in the promotion.

Since then, there were rumors of Edge’s retirement from WWE and also a run with AEW, where several of his friends now ply their trades. Now, after his debut, the 49-year-old has opened up about the reception he received from his past employers.

Contrary to what one might expect, WWE has been supportive of the icon. “And I guarantee you this–they’re [WWE] not mad. I’m not mad. I’ve received so many texts from the office, from the travel department, from the talent relations department, from the music department, from the performers, from the big suits, and none of them are mad,” Edge told Sports Illustrated. This shows that the Stamford-based promotion and Edge had an amicable split.

“They’re happy for me. And I’m happy,” he added. Meanwhile, do we know why Edge took up the offer of joining AEW rather than retiring?

AEW could facilitate Edge with fulfillment of longstanding wish

While WWE is the world’s biggest pro wrestling promotion, they still couldn’t manage to fulfill one of Edge’s wishes. The four-time WWE Champion wants to wrestle for NJPW (New Japan Pro Wrestling). With WWE not opting for a working partnership with any other pro wrestling promotion, this wasn’t possible for Edge to achieve.

That, however, changes with his AEW contract. Tony Khan’s company has an active tie-up with the Japanese promotion, and they frequently collaborate. Edge told SI that he wants to wrestle at the hallowed Tokyo Dome. But not only that, he wants to take on NJPW poster boy Kazuchika Okada.
