Is Shane McMahon Heading to Tony Khan’s AEW? Here’s Everything You Need to Know

Despite being the son of the former CEO of WWE, Shane McMahon hasn’t assumed a new role in the Triple H era. The last time we saw him was at WrestleMania 39. McMahon has not displayed signs of wanting to showcase his skills elsewhere after his father relieved him of his duties from the family business in 2022.

Following the injury at Mania last year, McMahon has been out of the pro wrestling industry. However, this doesn’t mean that he has taken a permanent hiatus as a former WWE employee claims that he could choose to join AEW.

Jim Ross suggests that Shane McMahon joining AEW wouldn’t be “impossible” but admits “it’s a long shot”

One year after he was fired by his father, McMahon returned to the Stamford-based company at WrestleMania 39. However, things quickly came back to a close due to his injury. Now, Jim Ross has talked about his return to the pro wrestling industry again, and this time, he could be joining AEW instead of the family business. On his podcast, Grilling JR, the former WWE commentator said, “I would say it’s a long shot, less than 50-50 that he would reengage in pro wrestling. But I can’t say that it’s impossible because it isn’t...Time will tell as far as that’s concerned. I’m not advocating it happen yay or nay. But to say that it’s impossible. It would not be true. It is silly. Anything is possible in this crazy business.”

The co-hosts also talked about how one of them had heard that Shane McMahon had talked to AEW stars on the active roster about their workflow and the kind of atmosphere present in the Florida-based promotion.

But if McMahon is ready to return to the sport, fans would expect him to return to WWE first. Any other choice would raise questions that he would have to answer. It doesn’t seem that there’s any family drama brewing internally because of how Shane McMahon’s son attended a WWE PLE.

So far, there is no confirmation about Shane McMahon’s return. However, his son seems to be interested in his roots in the family legacy of pro wrestling. At WWE Fastlane in October 2023, we saw Declan McMahon at the venue, along with some of the Indiana Hoosiers squad. Vince McMahon‘s grandson stood behind the announcer’s table since the beginning of the event. He adorned a WWE Championship belt with the logo of Indiana Hoosiers on it.

The reason behind this belt was that he was a player on the NCAA Division 1 football team. His athletic background suggests that he could also be a future potential talent in the Stamford-based company. Additionally, he could choose to handle backstage affairs to replicate his father. Shane McMahon took this moment to appreciate his son publicly by uploading the clip on his social media and announcing that he is a proud father.
