Blending reality and fiction has been a core aspect of the pro wrestling world. The promotions often draw inspiration from a wrestler’s real-life incidents and incorporate them into their on-screen storylines to entice the audience. This has been going on for ages.
CM Punk is known for being problematic in real life. He has used his real-life straight-edge character and incorporated it into his matches and storylines to draw attention to himself. His tactics to become an audience attraction have worked very well so far. But it has also cost him a big deal.

‘The Best in the World’ feels like years of trying to portray a bad guy character in his wrestling gimmick have literally turned him into a bad guy in the eyes of the pro wrestling fans. Whenever a controversy finds him in the center, people develop a notion that he must be on the wrong side of the story.
He said, “Now we all got to roll in the f***ing mud, and that never should have happened and has never been course-corrected. So, I understand people want to say that, ‘Oh, man, Punk is a d*ck.’ Well yeah, because I’m defending myself and I will always defend myself.”
“I’m open to have a full-blown f***ing sit-down powwow discussion with everybody about it. But it hasn’t happened yet, and it’s not because of my lack of trying,” he added. He added he is ready to resolve his issues with his rivals, but nobody is giving him a chance.
He believes that even when he tries to defend himself, people pin him down as the bad guy, regardless of the truth. He claims that happens because the AEW locker room adds more fuel to the fire. They leak stuff to the wrestling media, which ends up with him looking bad in front of the fans.
He said all of this during an interview with ESPN just hours before his big AEW return. He has not even returned yet and things have already started to look bad.

Punk creates more trouble for himself ahead of his AEW return
As mentioned, the ‘Second City Savior’ had an interview with ESPN before his grand return on AEW Collision on June 17. The interview primarily focused on the discussions of his near future in the industry. But in the middle of the interview, Punk decided to bring in The Elite.
The wrestling world is very much aware of his notorious fallout and backstage brawl between Punk and The Elite during the post-All Out media scrum last year. Wrestling Observer Newsletter revealed that the former MMA star’s words leaked out even before the interview went live.
