Triple H found himself in the middle of heated jibes from fans after Backlash 2024 because of the shots that he took at certain media houses. He accused them of being unreliable sources. This happened when the topic of Drew Gulak‘s WWE release came up. Since then, the pro wrestling community has urged HHH to apologize but we haven’t heard anything from him.

Dave Meltzer compared the situation to a hypothetical one. He claimed that if the same thing had happened with Tony Khan, he would be in more trouble than ‘The Game’ is currently in.

During the post-show conference in Lyon, France, a reporter asked Triple H why Gulak was ‘fired’. The CCO of WWE revealed that he wasn’t fired, but his contract wasn’t renewed. HHH also called out media houses like Fightful and PW Insider and asked reporters to choose a source more credible than them, firing up wrestling fans online. Despite the demand, Triple H didn’t apologize publicly. Although Dave Meltzer believes that WWE apologized personally to the media houses, he still said during the radio show, “It was a bulls**t comment and [he] shouldn’t have said it. If Tony Khan would have said it, the people would have gone completely nuts, insane, but, you know, he can get away with it because everyone’s, they’re hot and everyone’s kissing up to him.

Tony Khan has routinely garnered brickbats from the pro wrestling community if they don’t find a liking to his statements. Even though Paul Levesque also received several jibes from fans, the issue seems to have cooled down. On the other hand, if the roles were reversed, the AEW head honcho might still have been on the hit list of several fans.

Triple H isn’t the only WWE personality whose comment on Drew Gulak allowed him to enter the limelight. Cody Rhodes‘ old comments on Gulak also resurfaced amidst this drama.

Stardust left WWE in 2016 because of personal reasons. By 2017, he was working in other promotions. During this year, he appeared in an interview with Busted Open. He made some comments about Drew Gulak that ended up resurfacing recently because of the turn of events in WWE. The American Nightmare criticized Gulak for not being a talented wrestler and took shots at several of his professional skills.

The reigning WWE Undisputed Champion also narrated a story about how a jealous Gulak was angry at Rhodes because he had amassed more of a following than him during a fan event. Nevertheless, the situation over Drew Gulak’s exit wouldn’t have gathered this much time in the spotlight if not for Triple H’s comments. Do you agree with Meltzer’s suggestion that Tony Khan would have incurred more backlash if he had made those comments? Mention your thoughts below.
