A few nights ago, wrestling fans saw the surprising and shocking termination of CM Punk from his AEW contract. Punk was hired by Tony Khan’s AEW in 2021, and was soon elevated to the main-event role, and even won AEW World Championships.

However, since last year, Punk started having backstage problems with the roster. His problems with the promotion peaked this year before Khan took the hard decision of letting Punk go from his contract, after AEW All In in Wembley. Soon, after this, various personalities came up with their own opinion on the situation, including one WWE Hall of Famer who offered himself up for the role of making tough decisions such as firing talent.

Tony Khan has always been more of a friend than a boss to his employees at AEW. However, this often puts him in a tough situation with his wrestlers. Khan has always avoided the role of authority and instead maintained a friendly relationship. But, when all limits were hit, he recently had to make the tough decision of reminding people of their roles at AEW.

WWE Hall of Famer Booker T recently addressed this situation and claimed how tough it is for people to fire someone, especially if they have a friendly relationship. He urged Khan to hire someone for these roles. “Tony Khan should’ve stepped in a little bit earlier, put his foot down. If Tony Khan can’t do it, he should hire someone that can do it. It’s hard being the bad guy, especially when you are buddies with a lot of these guys,” the retired wrestler said.

The five-time World Heavyweight Champion offered himself up for the role, and stated, “I would love to have that job over in AEW. With all that money and all that power.” Tony Khan has always maintained a good relationship with all of his employees especially The Elite, and Cody Rhodes. Khan was also particularly fond of Punk, but after his dismissal, maybe not so much now.

What is next for CM Punk in the near future?

With CM Punk now out of AEW, and on good terms with WWE, is there a chance for the wrestler to return to WWE? A few months ago, Punk had arrived at a WWE RAW show and made amends with several backstage talents.
