Cody Rhodes‘ departure from AEW to return to WWE was one of the most talked-about news stories of 2022. The 2023 Royal Rumble winner has stated on many occasions that his decision was due to personal reasons. He also highlighted the fact that he wanted to pursue his first big dream: winning the WWE Championship. The American Nightmare aims to honor the memory of his father, Dusty Rhodes by doing this. In fact, Rhodes continues to navigate his way through shark-infested waters as he aims to complete his story.

However, the 38-year-old received his flak for abandoning his ship at AEW since he had put the work in to bring about a massive change in the pro wrestling landscape. Rhodes admitted that he did not meet the standards required of him during his time as the EVP of AEW.

Cody Rhodes admits to being a “terrible” EVP

Cody Rhodes recently joined ESPN’s Marc Raimondi for an interview where he discussed his WWE career and the WWE 2K24 video game. During the interview, the interviewer reminded ‘The American Nightmare’ of all his achievements in the past 2 years since his return to the WWE, from headlining WrestleMania 39 to being on the cover of WWE 2K24, and now there seems to be only one thing left. And while Raimondi was hinting at something else, Rhodes thought it was the prospect of becoming EVP again as he interrupted Raimondi mid-sentence and took a guess. “EVP of WWE.” However, when asked if he would want to be that, he clearly admitted to being ‘terrible’ as he replied, “No, no, gosh no. I was terrible at that job.”

Cody Rhodes played a vital part in the creation of All Elite Wrestling in 2019. In fact, he had extended his support to the company before the promotion secured a TV deal. During his time with the company, he held the position of executive vice president until his departure in February 2022. Besides being the EVP, he also did what he does best. His in-ring prowess proved to be a major asset, and he managed to conquer the TNT Championship on several occasions.

Now in the WWE, he is looking forward to pursuing his goal of being a WWE champion. The wrestler got his chance at WrestleMania 39, but Roman Reigns and The Bloodline put a dent in those plans. Despite everything, ‘The American Nightmare’ has not given up hope and continues to move forward until he writes the last chapter of his story.

He is scheduled to be part of the men’s Royal Rumble match. If he is victorious, he will win the battle royale for the second consecutive year. Rhodes will do everything in his power to get a new opportunity to finish his story at WrestleMania 40. But CM Punk seems adamant about being the biggest hurdle in his path.
