It was a breath of fresh air when Cody Rhodes and the Young Bucks came out with AEW in 2019. At that point, multiple WWE wrestlers left the company. The newly formed AEW by Rhodes and the Bucks was the new promised land. Unfortunately, after two years of exciting events and storylines, Rhodes and his wife, Brandi, left the company in February 2022.

At AEW, Rhodes worked as the Executive Vice President. This felt like a fresh start for Rhodes after he departed from Vince’s playground. But sadly for Rhodes, after two years, he left AEW and finally sheds light on his infamous ‘Exit Interview.’

In a recent interview with Notsam Wrestling, Rhodes spoke candidly about his time in AEW. Rhodes is talking about the company changing the policy near the end of his contract. He also spoke about how everyone in the company, like the Young Bucks, Chris Jericho, and Kenny Omega, had to do their stuff.

He said, “I think maybe selfishly egotistically, I wanted to remind them. Hey, I appreciate the company’s changed. I do. Please know though there is no company had these things not have happened.”

Rhodes went on to talk about his intentions with the exit interview. He said, “I think I selfishly wanted fans to know I love you guys.” He said he didn’t care if the fans knew or had forgotten it. Rhodes wanted to express it himself and knew it was the nature of the industry to be overlooked for all the hard work he put into the company.

He recounted how he saw his father, The American Dream Dusty Rhodes go through the same. Rhodes believed that people had forgotten his father’s contribution to the industry, which is the same situation he was in. He thought it was happening all over again to him this time.

Since his return to WWE, his booking has catapulted his stardom. With the persona of ‘The American Nightmare,’ he was up for his first title shot at WrestleMania 39 after winning the Royal Rumble. Squaring off against the ‘Tribal Chief’ Roman Reigns, he unfortunately could not win the match. But given his current position on the card, Cody Rhodes could look to a bright future in WWE.
