The Tuesday Night War between WWE’s NXT and AEW’s Dynamite was one of the hottest topics of last week. Reminiscent of the iconic Monday Night Wars, the war between the two rivaling promotions was an epic showdown. However, the WWE came out on top with higher ratings and viewership. Despite all his attempts at smearing Triple H and others at WWE, Tony Khan found himself in hot water once again during the week.

Now it’s clear that there’s no love lost between the two promotions, which was evidenced on this week’s AEW Dynamite show. A former WWE star took to the stage and name-dropped Hulk Hogan. But while it might have elicited roars from a WWE crowd, it did not elicit a positive reaction from AEW fans.

After losing the Tuesday Night War to the WWE, the latest episode of AEW Dynamite saw a few WWE stars get their names mentioned. The Icon Sting did this during a promo segment. Among the few names was his arch-rival Hulk Hogan.

Taking the ring all by himself, Sting made a big announcement to the fans. However, before he started, he wanted to reflect on his career and the people he admired. Apart from names like the Steiner Brothers, Lex Luger, and Dusty Rhodes, he also mentioned Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair.

While Flair’s name got a pop from the crowd, the same cannot be said about Hogan. The fans started booing him, and Sting acknowledged it by saying, “Okay, I hear you”. However, he still credited Hogan for inspiring him, claiming Hogan transcended wrestling.

This name drop comes just a few days after Tony Khan took to social media to throw shade at The Undertaker, Triple H, and Shawn Michaels. Khan poked fun at The Undertaker, appearing in front of less than a million people on NXT, and Michaels for booking so many stars to the show. However, this is not the only reason fans hate Hogan.

Hulk Hogan’s history with Sting dates back to Starrcade 1997 and their infamous match. Hyped up for over a year, the match between the new persona Sting created vs. the leader of nWo was exactly what fans wanted. However, Hogan won thanks to background politics and a botch three count by the referee. This has upset the fans and Sting to this day.

Meanwhile, this year, Hogan found himself in hot water, much like Khan. In multiple interviews this year, he said things that made fans and pro wrestling historians scratch their heads. Whether it be Micheal Jackson promoting the WWE or getting Simon Cowell to the USA, his lies never seemed to end. This irked fans more than Hogan has ever done before. Despite teaming up with Flair for THC products, The Hulkster has left a sour taste in fan’s mouths.
