‘Hangman’ Adam Page earned the title opportunity by winning the Rampage Royale just weeks ago. Moreover, this was his first shot at becoming a two-time champion since he lost to CM Punk at Double or Nothing.
The match ended when Jon Moxley hit Page with a lariat and Page landed awkwardly on his head and neck. The referee and ringside physician instantly came in to check on the wrestler. Post that, they determined he was unfit to compete, and hence, the match was called off.

After the referee stopped the match, they took Hangman backstage on a stretcher. The former AEW Champion rolled over once before landing after connecting a lariat. Clearly, it seems Mox hit the move hard or Page had a bad landing which resulted in the injury.

Prayers up for Hangman.
He’s got a wife and young son at home that need him healthy. #aew #adampage pic.twitter.com/orsc5luwQ3

It’s hard to see what the telltale sign was for the ref to pick up that something was wrong but I’m happy he was able to. Prayers for Hangman, I really hope he is ok 🙏

I really want Hangman to be okay. Not even because he's one of my favorites, but because he's a wrestler risking his life each week. Scary how it happens too. #hangman #adampage #aew

Some fans claim the lariat to be much stronger.
I think the lariat connecting with his jaw knocks/concussed him & he had little control over motion of his body when he sold it by flipping. It's extremely unfortunate how he landed as well. I think both contribute to whatever injury he's sustained which sucks. 🙁 pic.twitter.com/iPvXWajYo9

when did it go wrong? is it with the impact of the lariat or the impact of his head hitting the matt?

It wasn't the lariat, it was the landing.

However, some fans said Adam Page took the bump in the wrong manner, which caused the injury.
Guys never take a flat back bump on a clothesline anymore. Look at the 80’s compared to now. Everyone has to flip now. We’re lucky this doesn’t happen more. Best wishes Hangman. Get well soon.

I can’t believe people are blaming Mox for this, he did everything right. Hangman took the bump wrong, in the words of Dusty Rhodes “Don’t do shit you don’t know how to do.”

More fans shared their concerns for Adam Page.
It’s most likely a concussion. He gone be out for a while. It’s not that serious
— LDM (@real2tz) October 19, 2022
Best wishes to Hangman, hope it's not as serious as it looks, there's really no point and no respect in guessing someone's injury. Just hope the very best for him.

The match had to end with Moxley awarding the win. However, when Page will return fit, AEW will have a rematch for the title at a PPV or a special weekly show.

Mox thought the lariat was too hard, and that was the reason Page got injured. However, there is no clear news yet on the condition of Hangman.
