Tony Khan continues to garner the tag of a bad booker. Although it’s not new that the AEW head honcho screwed up some massive stars after power-signing them in the promotion, every time the instance raises serious doubt on how safe the company is in Khan’s stewardship in the long run. The latest brickbat came from WWE veteran Eric Bischoff regarding how horribly Khan used Mercedes Mone, formerly known as Sasha Banks, so far, putting the former WWE champion’s goodwill at stake.

Mone’s AEW arrival was one of the most hyped-up AEW storylines that we got to witness in recent times. From her hometown of Boston, Khan launched the CEO in a sluggish promo despite building the tension all along. The subsequent promos of Mone going forward also lacked creativity and energy to some extent to make a deep-seated impact among fans. Also, a long wait to host her first match in the promotion and that, too, in a rather ordinary spot irked fans even more, negatively affecting Mone’s career graph.

WCW legend Eric Bischoff addressed the odds during the recent episode of the 83 Weeks podcast. The 69-year-old noted, ”It’s off the charts because it’s not working. And you know why Tony? Because you f****d it up. You didn’t introduce Mercedes Mone properly. You didn’t build her beyond announcing and teasing. And then he made the career-killing mistake for her of giving her a live mic. She can’t cut a promo, but yet you put her out there to cut promos for what was it four, five, six weeks before she ever wrestled. You killed her character before a bell rang.”

Bischoff further puts Tony Khan at gunpoint, asking him to respect and value Mone as long as she’s still there instead of unnecessarily glorifying her AEW arrival.

But the AEW Boss seems to pay zero heed to it, continuing to puff her up to date.

Mercedes Mone defeated WilloW Nightangle for the TBS Championship and is now lacing up her boots to defend her title at Forbidden Door this weekend against Stephanie Vaquer. In the run-up to the big event, the AEW Boss reflected on Mone’s high-stake inclusion to the roster. He dubbed Mone’s AEW signing as one of the greatest free agent signings in history.

Although it was a huge compliment for the former WWE star, it’s certainly a strategic effort of Khan to sell her as the next big thing in the company.

The only concern is that the empty pushing without proper build-up might get the better of the 32-year-old even more in the future.
