Brody King vs. Konnan: Who's right about the House of Black's impact on wrestling?

WWE and AEW are again on the clash, but this time on an individual level. The prized WWE veteran Disco Inferno recently threw shades at AEW’s House of Black, the collective home of Buddy Matthews, Brody King, Malakai Black, and Julia Hart. He called out the stable and questioned its very purpose in the division. Quite essentially, it irked the members, among which, King, 37, came out and fired back sharply at the critique. The social media fiasco once again stirred the pot of the ever-volatile WWE-AEW relationship.

The House of Black has always been the centerpiece of attention in AEW since its inception right after Malakai Black’s debut in 2021. The faction shows great potential and has achieved a significant place in the fans’ hearts, with many of them demanding their main event scene booking several times in the past. However, there’s always another side of the coin.

Given the current messy condition of the group with Julia Hart’s rumored ROH debut, Malakai Black’s contract end, and Buddy Matthews’ re-signing, the haters got their chance to sneak in. WCW legend Disco Inferno infamously commented on the latest episode of Keepin’ It 100 OFFICIAL podcast that the Stamford-based company wants to do absolutely nothing with the faction.

The way they have built their image in the AEW locker room by constantly rejecting creative plans and constantly acting up was enough for WWE officials to be safe from them. Inferno also dubbed the group as a troublemaker, something that deeply offended Brody King. The 37-year-old lost his cool and tweeted, ”Hey @glenngilbertti, Go f**k yourself’.”

Interestingly enough, he tagged the wrong Inferno in the post, but that didn’t change his disregard for the WCW veteran’s ignoble comment. King didn’t raise his voice to safeguard the honor of his stable for the first time now.

The AEW faction has been the subject of controversy for a long time. But the members’ loyalty and love for the group kept it bound together so far. During a jam-packed AEW Collision in January, the group fell short of standing out in front of Danial Garcia and FTR in an Elimination Steel Cage match. Fans gossiped that the rule of escaping the cage was added purposefully as Matthews and Black didn’t want to take any pins.

Fanning the idea, wrestling journalist, Dave Meltzer noted he believes that the House of the Black duo wanted to jump ship to WWE ( there were rumors of Matthews landing in WWE) and hence didn’t want to take the cake. Countering this trash opinion, King noted on X that he wondered how someone’s idea became a fact just because he watched wrestling for a long time. He stated the basic rules of the cage match once again while lambasting Meltzer for his poor research skills as a seasoned journalist.

“Funny how someone’s opinion just becomes fact because they’ve been watching wrestling a long time. The format and stipulation of the cage match was always what it was going to be. It’s not our fault the wording on the graphic changed,” King wrote on X. It will be interesting to see where the faction leads up to the next with all its fighters on the box.
