When former WWE Champ Jinder Mahal made his return on the Day #1 episode of Monday Night RAW, fans were surprised. While the disappointment was clear from the fan’s reaction, another shocker was yet to come. After a brief segment with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, he attained a sudden push. He engaged in a match for the WWE World Heavyweight title against Seth Rollins. Fans thought the WWE was planning something big involving his character. However, with the title loss stemming as his last meaningful action, he was released on April 19.
Now, the rumor mill has suggested that The Modern Day Maha Raja could jump ship to AEW. Unfortunately, one WWE legend explains why that isn’t that great of an idea.

When it comes to how promotions will value a new wrestler, it is always best to listen to someone who has been around the block. Starting his career in 1972 and finishing in 2013, Dutch Mantel is that perfect someone. On his podcast Story Time with Dutch Mantell, he talked about Mahal switching brands. While this is normal for wrestlers who get released, Mantell explained how this would not work in the former WWE champion’s favor. He began with, “I don’t think people in AEW know who Jinder Mahal is. I really don’t.”
The running joke amongst some WWE talent is that Jinder Mahal will be feuding with Tony Khan on AEW Dynamite during this Summer.

While Tony Khan did make a statement comparing Mahal’s title shot to that of Hook on AEW, most fans aren’t too keen on the former WWE star. The reaction from the live WWE audience when his music hit was a dead giveaway. Continuing on about his point, Mantell said, “I mean, the really big stars. Like Edge and all those guys, they didn’t help them that much.” This was in reference to Edge (known as Adam Copeland on AEW), who debuted in October 2023. After a sensational entry into the promotion, he has had a lackluster feud with Christian.
The other big star in question was Mercedes Mone. Wrestling fans supported her debut at Big Business in Boston, but to date, she hasn’t wrestled a single match. The AEW faithful has lamented the use of Mone, as the promotion has failed to capitalize on the opportunity they had on their hands. Ending his argument, Mantell said, “Then you brought him over there, and he just now he just one of them.” This was again in reference to Edge, who is now just another name on the roster. Previously, Mantell pointed out that AEW was the premier destination for a good payday, like Mone’s case. However, gaining relevance in a promotion whose audience doesn’t know who you are will be hard. What do you think? Should Mahal head to AEW or maybe TNA?
