The newest addition to the AEW’s calendar, the AEW Collision, seemed to be a landmark announcement for Tony Khan’s promotion. But things are not going as per expectation as the promotion is currently undergoing a major setback in terms of ticket sales. The event was officially announced at the Warner Bros Discovery TV upfront presentation last week. More information was unveiled the same night, at Dynamite, with Tony Khan announcing the dates and venues of several upcoming tapings.

The premier episode on June 17 was supposed to be held in Chicago at the United Center, but its location is still up on the air due to the uncertainty surrounding CM Punk‘s return.

Amid this existing confusion, another bad news hit the AEW world as wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer noted that the ticket sales for the first run of shows have recorded disappointing numbers so far.

Meltzer noted, ”I’ll tell you what, they don’t have a big buzz for Collision. They put three shows on sale, they put Toronto, Hamilton, and Newark on sale, and Newark has about 3,500 tickets out, and it’s — you would want more — for the New York market it would be the weakest opening since they’ve been going to the market.”

Explaining the scenario more vividly, he added,” Toronto is like 1,600 and that’s the day before the pay-per-view (Forbidden Door 2) that sold out instantly, and Toronto is a great market. And I heard from some people in Toronto like the publicity of it, but nobody knew till Wednesday, and that’s not good. Hamilton, that’s sold under the 600 range, so really bad advances, so not a good sign.”

The report clearly indicates that AEW needs to do a lot more to garner more responses for their brand-new show. That being said, the current most debated star CM Punk did his best to drum up interest in the market ahead of the show. The Second City Saint’s potential return to the Jacksonville-based promotion is currently the focal point of the entire AEW world. In fact, his return will confirm the venue for the first day of the broadcast of the event.

After some initial speculation, Punk’s absence in the AEW Collision’s official poster caused further confusion among fans. However, the star himself ruled out that confusion, dropping a major hint on his return.

CM Punk teased their return at the premiere episode of the upcoming AEW Collision

CM Punk has been away from the wrestling business for quite some time now. He has been last seen wrestling under AEW’s ring during the All Out 2022 pay-per-view. It was a memorable night for Punk in both positive and negative ways. He clinched the AEW world championship but ended up inviting some trouble due to harsh comments on Kenny Omega, Young Bucks, and some other stars.

However, Tony Khan has been looking for ways to get back ‘The Best in the World’ to his promotion ever since. What can be the ideal place to welcome back the top star to the roster than the newest program of the promotion? Hence, the speculation continues to spread wings.

The hype got even more rapid after Punk himself liked a post of a fan listening to his entrance music with a reminder to fans to be there at the show. The post didn’t only receive Punk’s like, the AEW star also put a salute emoji in the comment.

However, Punk’s teasing his comeback failed to create as much hype as expected, as the recent report suggested so. Now, we are yet to see what else AEW and Punk will do next to boost ticket sales.
