AEW just witnessed Double or Nothing in Las Vegas. The PPV was also celebrating the company’s fifth anniversary in the business. However, things don’t seem to be going well for Tony Khan and Co. The company has been facing a massive rating and viewership slump, resulting in unfavorable numbers. Moreover, it seems Khan referenced WWE’s Tribal Chief, Roman Reigns.

2024 hasn’t been an exceptional year for AEW. The numbers are low despite getting big names in PPVs like Mercedes Mone, Adam Copeland, Kazuchika Okada, and many more on the roster. Even MJF and Kenny Omega made their returns with no improvement. Moreover, Tony Khan got involved in a storyline with The Elite and ate a Tiger Driver.

With the booking and chaos seen at Double or Nothing, critics claimed Khan was getting desperate. This was linked to the pending media rights deal with Warner Bros. Discovery. Early reports indicated that Khan and WBD were not ready to sign off on the deal and many claimed this was because of low viewership.

In what many fans have called another desperate move by Khan, he mentioned “Big dog” on social media. Many fans quickly wondered if he was referring to the Head of the Table Reigns. He did have this moniker during his babyface run in the WWE. However, it turns out that was not the case. Khan replied to a post by Stokely Hathaway and said, “I’m with her on this one, big dog.”

The manager for Kris Statlander and Willow Nightingale has never been called that before. But his X handle is Big Stoke, which makes sense for Khan to call him that. In conclusion, there was nothing to do with Roman Reigns. Or could it be?

Despite Hathaway using ‘Big’ in his handle, which could be why Khan called him “Big dog” this wouldn’t be the first time Khan seemed to use WWE ideas to make an impact. Recently, it was promoted that fans would stand a chance to win a prize if they scanned a QR code. This would show up during Mercedes Mone’s match on AEW Dynamite.

Unfortunately, fans quickly called out the company for jumping on the QR code bandwagon that WWE currently uses. WWE has promoted the return of Uncle Howdy and the Wyatt 6 using QR codes during their shows. Despite ranting about bots on X, Khan has yet to reply to these allegations. Using a QR code during a former WWE star’s match seemed pre-planned, which fans didn’t like. What do you think? Who is the bigger dog? Reigns or Hathaway? Tell us in the comments.
