After news of the altercation broke, reports suggested that it was the first time the AEW head honcho feared for his safety at a show. While this depiction paints both men in a negative light, Khan blamed Punk, who apparently tried to attack him. This resulted in the former UFC star’s termination from the company after a two-year stint and becoming AEW Champion twice. However, with the backstage footage now revealed, fans can decide for themselves.

As the video shows, Punk confronted Perry after his match backstage. Among the people present were officials and Samoa Joe. With no audio in the video, we cannot tell if the confrontation was hostile or polite. What is visible is the Chicago-based star shoving Perry, which started the altercation. Once things got heated, Punk locked the 26-year-old in a headlock. This prompted everyone, including Joe, to break the two apart.

This is where things get interesting, as CM Punk lunges at someone off-screen. While we cannot confirm who it is, it may have been Khan. According to Punk’s words, “I turned to Tony and said this place is a f**king joke man, you’re a clown, I quit.” The person unseen in the footage may have been Khan, whose arm is visible. While Punk didn’t punch him, he did move towards the unseen person in a hostile manner while being held back. Nevertheless, the aftermath turned out to be severe for both wrestlers. However, a silver lining struck for one superstar while the other wrestler has been stuck in limbo.

As mentioned above, AEW terminated Punk and signed on with the WWE. Perry received a suspension from AEW and debuted in NJPW. While both men have seemingly moved on in their careers, the airing of this tape shows Khan has not.
