Jim Ross might have stepped into the world of AEW and has executed his role gracefully, but he’s not a fan of everything that is happening under the promotion lately.
While Tony Khan kind of gets immune from all the brickbats regarding lackluster ratings, burying talents, etc, those topics don’t stop emerging again and again. Ahead of the company’s fifth-year anniversary at Double or Nothing on May 26th, Jim Ross beefs about the scarcity of needle movers in the roster and how it won’t lead to anything good in the long run.

Keeping aside all the disapproval, AEW has its share of positives that led the promotion to a steady rise since its inception back in 2019. Be it through strategic talent acquisition or exaggerated pay-per-view events, Khan has really made AEW a strong market competitor from its rookie beginnings.
Jim Ross, the former WWE commentator who’s now serving AEW, is well aware of this fact but feels there’s a serious concern existing that needs to be paid attention to immediately. He feels there are not enough faces in AEW who are ready to get on a do-or-die ride for the shake of the company’s overall good.
During the latest edition of Busted Open Radio, Ross, 72, noted, ”A lot of things that can be improved upon like anybody else’s company. AEW’s challenge right now to me is creating new stars. Somebody on that brand has got to get hot, and that’s gonna be. I think what they need now is somebody’s got to get hot. And you know I’m not gonna go into all the reasons why somebody’s not and all that dirt sheet stuff. Nonetheless, we gotta get somebody hot.”

The veteran gives his current promotion a solid B grade in terms of overall business development. The former WWE figure knows a thing or two about handling and developing a wrestling promotion. And he continues to contribute to AEW’s growth by offering his keen insights to the powers that be of AEW.

However, he responsibly plays the role of a constructive critic by offering occasional feedback to Khan and other higher-ups. When Ray asked Ross whether he would provide feedback to his recruiter regularly on diverse business issues or not, he noted he does it from time to time, especially when he feels there is a need or an issue is serious enough.

Nevertheless, the veteran commentator upholds a positive spirit and looks at the good part of the business to spur growth. Speaking of Double or Nothing, Ross seems hopeful and looks forward to a much-awaited on-screen reunion with old buddy Jerry Lawyer.
