Royal Rumble is not always about the last man standing. Another enormous accomplishment of the Premium Live Event could be being the second man in the ring. Being declared as the Ironman of the Royal Rumble is in itself an enormous accomplishment. While many had claimed the spot of being the Ironman, in recent times Gunther is considered the most formidable. However, even though he was in the ring for a long time, he could not break the record of a current AEW star.
How 5 minutes changed Gunther’s life
While Gunther is now famously known to hold this record, fans are familiar that it was previously held by none other than Rey Mysterio. The Lucha Libre held the spot for the longest time spent in the ring for almost 17 years. This has to be a Hall of Fame-worthy performance. However, what fans have forgotten over time is the fact that someone else broke Mysterio’s record way before Gunther. Bryan Danielson, who gained aplomb in WWE as Daniel Bryan was the first one to dethrone the Hall of Famer.

At the Greatest Royal Rumble PLE back in 2018, Danielson started the 50-men fight fest along with Dolph Ziggler. The two were the first two entrants and were followed by a swarm of opponents. Danielson survived until only three men were left in the ring. Along with him were Big Cass and Braun Strowman who had entered the ring much later.
As Danielson had entered the ring at the very beginning, he was exhausted from all the fighting. Cass eliminated him who was then in turn eliminated by Strowman. Even though Strowman was crowned as the winner, Danielson had set a record for the longest time spent in a single Royal Rumble. His record was of 1 hour, 16 minutes and 5 seconds. What is interesting to note is that this is just 5 minutes more than Gunther.

At the 2023 Royal Rumble, Gunther started the bout with Sheamus. The two were the first entrants in the ring. They were followed by The Miz, who was then defeated after the fifth opponent, Johnny Gargano entered the ring. Sheamus was out of the ring in no time. As time passed by, it was just Gunther and the American Nightmare, Cody Rhodes left in the ring. The Intercontinental Champion was tired after all the fighting. On top of that, Rhodes was the 30th entrant, who was relatively less tired compared to Gunther. The Ring General was eliminated. However, he had lasted the longest with 1 hour, 11 minutes, and 42 seconds mark.

The reason why Gunther and Danielson’s records are not compared is because Danielson had participated in a 50-men Royal Rumble. Whereas Gunther had participated in a 30-man battle royale. The 30-men style is considered the standard at WWE. Hence, their records are not usually compared. Do you think Gunther’s record will be broken this year?
