Desperate move or smart play? What's your take on Mercedes Moné's latest controversy?

In recent months, there has been a lot of talk about the possibility of Shane McMahon coming to AEW. Rumors arose about Shane McMahon’s initiating contacts with influential personnel from AEW, but Tony Khan came out to say that he had never spoken to the former producer of the WWE. Although he wanted to make it clear that he kept the doors of All Elite Wrestling open.

After a few weeks without news on the matter, WrestleTalk and Fightful Select have confirmed that Shane McMahon and Tony Khan met privately on Monday, July 29, at an office at a private airport in Arlington, Texas. Fightful added that they were talking about different options for the future.

But what excited fans the most was when a picture of the supposed meeting was leaked online on social media. The Twitter world went crazy on seeing the son of Vince McMahon double-cross his own family-run promotion to have a meeting with arguably their biggest rivals.

But how did the picture get leaked online, and who else was part of the meeting that actually took the photo? Well, we didn’t have to do a lot of investigation on that part since the CEO, Mercedes Mone, came forward on X and announced that she was the secret agent behind the camera. She tweeted, “lol I took that pic 🤑#AEW”

Mone sure is a major name in the Jacksonville-based promotion, and knowing her illustrious career in the WWE, it is possible that she was helping out with the meeting since she possibly shares a good bond with Shane McMahon. However, the internet still had a hard time believing it. So without wasting much time, they called out Mone for trying to seek attention.

Fans call out Mercedes Mone for a possible lie

AEW is surely known for making bold moves. Some of which may even land them in trouble, such as showing the CCTV footage of the AEW All-In brawl between CM Punk and Jack Perry. Despite this, it still seems less likely that AEW would leak a meeting with the son of their rival promotion’s head on purpose. So the internet called out Mercedes Mone for trying to get attention by claiming to be the person behind the camera.

Some fans even took things a step ahead by dropping some severe truth bombs, such as reminding Mone that she was no longer as relevant as she was during her WWE days. Now, she is losing the touch and her mediocre work in AEW isn’t helping either.
