Weeks after AEW made a huge announcement, rival promotion Impact followed suit. The Nashville-based pro-wrestling company has recently acquired the services of former WWE superstar Naomi, who recently cited mistreatment for walking out of the company. Apart from that, Impact will also step into a known WWE territory that hasn’t seen Vince McMahon’s promotion in action since 2019.

Impact announces tour Down Under in June-July

A few weeks ago, Tony Khan announced AEW All In, the company’s first pay-per-view event in London. The PPV will take place at the iconic Wembley Stadium on August 27. Treading the same part, Impact on Monday announced its first marquee event in Australia. The company will tour the country for four days, starting June 29.

According to an official press release, Impact will host two shows at the Equex Centre in New South Wales on June 30 and July 1.

“The IMPACT Down Under Tour will feature most of the IMPACT stars, numerous championship matches and special challenge matches against the best Australia-based wrestlers. The shows will be broadcast worldwide on FITE TV and across IMPACT Wrestling international broadcast platforms, digital and social media,” the company said in a statement.

It said that Impact booked the tour after New Japan Pro-Wrestling postponed its NJPW Oceania Cup due to some talent availability and scheduling issues.

Australia was a country that was a happy hunting ground for the WWE. However, Vince McMahon and his men haven’t toured the country since 2019. Prior to that, WWE would host at least one show Down Under. It was a ritual they followed from 2002 onwards. With Impact’s debut Australia tour, the company has a chance to fill the void left by the big promotion.

Meanwhile, Impact’s chances of wooing the Australian crowd have bolstered after acquiring Naomi.

Will Naomi become a needle mover for Impact in Australia?

Former WWE superstar Naomi, who wrestles as Trinity in Impact, made her debut on April 28. She left WWE last year while still being the Women’s Tag Team Champion. The 35-year-old wasn’t the only one to walk out of WWE. She was joined by NJPW star Mercedes Mone (Sasha Banks in WWE).

There is no doubt that Naomi is one of the biggest superstars acquired by the company in recent years. Her debut attracted the presence of another big name- CM Punk, who went to watch the female pro wrestler in action. On her first appearance, Naomi confronted Impact Knockouts World Champion Deonna Purrazzo and former title holder Jordynne Grace, as she desired the gold for herself.

This possible feud is certainly one to watch out for in the coming weeks and might play an important role during the Australia tour. Will the 35-year-old be able to pull the crowd on her own, time will tell. For now, her presence has certainly bolstered Impact’s lineup.

The company’s success in Australia can also open doors for AEW to try their luck there and break the WWE monopoly.
