Is Daniel Bryan playing both sides for a bigger payday, or is there more to the story?

Bryan Danielson’s AEW contract is up for expiation in seven days. While the American Dragon is slated to lock horns with the current AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland at AEW All-In, which is scheduled in late August, his current contract situation raised a serious question. There is still no word on whether or not he will choose to compete in his last scheduled match in the promotion despite the official end of a tenure. But as far as ECW icon Tonny Dreamer could see, he will go for the title and grab it just to trap Khan in keeping him longer with a bigger paycheck.

The veteran also noted that Danielson’s money-mindedness played a huge role during his WWE departure.

The former world champion made it pretty clear that the year 2024 will be the last year of him in the professional wrestling realm. However, it seems the world isn’t ready to believe the notion yet. While a portion of IWC is invested in the discussion about a potential WWE comeback after a bitter 3-year-old fall-out, Tonny Dreamer accused him of being extremely cunning over his AEW deal. He noted there’s a good chance of him propelling Khan into giving him more money for keeping the title home following an All-In win.

Elaborating his theory more, in the latest episode of Busted Open Radio, Dreamer elucidated, ”There’s also the, because I’m thinking, what if during this great match at Wembley, good old Jeff Jarrett comes, hits Shane Swerve Strickland over the head with the guitar. Bryan Danielson turns heel, wins the title. And then you have the guy who held up Vince McMahon before he went out through the curtain. And then they can hold up Tony Khan for more money. And you could say, hey, I’ll take this title and go to my former employer and throw it in the trash. There’s a lot of places you can go.”

However, let’s make you consider the other side of the story parallelly before reaching a conclusion.

Have an interesting take?

Daniel Bryan has marked an illustrious career in WWE. Despite not having a title reign, his time in WWE was largely remarkable. However, he still had to witness a lot of hardships in the division. The company initially fired him right after his debut as a NXT rookie for a controversial reason. However, they shortly brought him back and chiseled the best out of him through the later years, and things again came to a standstill back in 2022. But this time, it was Danielson who walked away and never looked back.

In a previous interview, the AEW mogul revealed that he had some issues with McMahon’s way of managing talents. He was clearly in need of more creative leeway, something he wasn’t granted. Eventually, his interest in his roles fizzled out. On the top, AEW’s core wrestling focus amazed him to the core. All of these culminated in his momentous AEW debut.
