Is Daniel Bryan's WWE return imminent, or is he just playing mind games with fans?

Bryan Danielson will fight in what could be the last match of his career at AEW All In, London. The American Dragon will face Swerve Strickland in a match where everything will be on the line. If he wins, Danielson will claim his first world championship in All Elite Wrestling. If he loses, he will have to retire as a professional wrestler.

This condition has raised many doubts among fans, who are very aware of Bryan’s statements. Danielson had previously assured that 2024 would be his last year as a full-time wrestler. However, the issue could be more complex. In an interview with Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp, Danielson confirmed that he is not currently under contract with AEW.

So it is possible that Danielson might have made his last AEW Dynamite appearance before hanging up his boots and bidding adieu to the Jacksonville-based promotion. To make the moment special, it seems The American Dragon chose to give a nod to his prior run in WWE. How? By wearing the same flannel he wore when he first retired from WWE on February 8, 2016, in Seattle, in his home state of Washington. This might suggest that the American Dragon is still interested in a WWE return.

A Twitter user by the name of @AIRGold_ caught the detail and shared it on X, which quickly garnered attention as fans loved the nod to his earlier run. Danielson said his priority after ending his in-ring career will be to improve the condition of his neck, which likely means he’ll go under the knife sooner rather than later. However, he wants to help AEW as much as he can and as long as they want him to. He said he’s willing to participate.

Currently, the veteran continues to enjoy one of the best stages of his professional career at AEW. The wrestler signed with Tony Khan’s company with the aim of competing against the best wrestlers in the world and, above all, having fun in the ring before retiring for good. It remains to be seen if the emblematic Wembley Stadium ends up becoming the final stage for one of the best wrestlers of his generation. But is it possible that he might return to WWE for a part-time run? Has he received any offers yet?

On August 1, Bryan Danielson’s contract with AEW officially came to an end. However, Danielson has continued to appear on company programming and participate in events without an official contract. Despite the uncertainty over his future, Danielson is scheduled to face Swerve Strickland at All In next week. In a recent interview with Fightful, Bryan Danielson was asked about the possible interest of other companies in his services and if he had received any offers after the end of his contract with AEW.

Danielson said he hasn’t received any offers, adding that even if he had been messaged, he probably wouldn’t know, since he usually doesn’t keep an eye on his phone or read the messages he receives. He said, “Not a single person. People who really know me know that I don’t look at my phone very much. Even for this interview, the AEW representative and my manager were reaching out to me, and [my manager] ended up calling my wife, and then my wife called me to remind me that I had media this morning. It’s a blessing and a curse. It allows me to be more in the moment as my with my wife and kids and doing all these different things, but when people want to really get ahold of me, then I’m not available.”

He further added, “That said, right now, I have 3998 unread text messages. I’m almost at 4000. There is also a lot of missed calls. There could have been somebody in there, but that would require me to go through and look at all my missed text messages.”

So, what do you think? Will Danielson work in a backstage role in All Elite Wrestling, or will he find himself back in the WWE? Let us know in the comments.
