Did Cody Rhodes leave AEW because of Britt Baker? What's your take on this backstage drama?

Britt Baker has been in the news this past week after All Elite Wrestling suspended her. The wrestler starred in a backstage incident with Alicia Atout, MJF‘s girlfriend. After Baker said something about the American Champion that did not sit well with her partner, the company took action through its disciplinary committee, suspending Baker to prevent the problems from spreading backstage.

Since then, Baker has surely been one of the biggest buzzmakers in the pro wrestling world. However, a major claim has been made about the DMD that surely would attract a lot of negative publicity. At the beginning of 2022, Cody Rhodes left All Elite Wrestling after losing a match for the TNT Championship against Sammy Guevara due to his contract expiring, and he decided not to renew it.

After this, Rhodes returned to WWE, where he remains to this day as the company’s Universal Champion. Despite his recent success, ‘The American Nightmare’ never revealed the official reason for his departure from Tony Khan’s company. However, a possible reason behind this event was recently revealed on a recent episode of his Keepin’ It 100 podcast. While many believed it would have something to do with some booking decisions or creative differences, Konnan revealed that it was nothing of that sort.

Konnan claimed that one of the reasons the American Nightmare left AEW was because his spouse Brandi had issues with Britt Baker. To make matters worse, Tony Khan always backed the company’s former Women’s World Champion. This was something that was not well received by the current WWE Universal Champion. He said, “One of the reasons that Cody left amongst many was there was problems between Brandi and Britt. Tony always takes her side. You’ll find out one day.”

Well, this truly is a major accusation, as All Elite Wrestling fans severely miss the presence of The American Nightmare. Now that they know Britt Baker is possibly one of the major culprits behind his leaving the Jacksonville-based promotion, it would surely attract major heat for Britt Baker. However, a major AEW superstar has come forward in defense of the DMD, as she has called the Alicia Atout case an isolated incident.

Since the news of Baker being suspended from AEW made headlines, many AEW talents have played down the matter. This is the case of Deonna Purrazzo. Who, in a recent interview with Stephanie Chase, assured that it was simply an isolated incident. She said, “I think this was just one instance that sparked a lot of drama and kind of took on a life of its own. The rumor mill starts going, and things aren’t as they were. People add their two cents, and it makes it way bigger than it was. I think this was an isolated incident because everything else that I’ve experienced in this locker room is supportive, encouraging, and full of camaraderie.”

She further added, “We just recently celebrated people’s birthdays, had birthday cakes, and sang. I feel this locker room doesn’t get as much credit as it deserves for that type of camaraderie. I don’t know what it was like before. I can only speak to my experiences, but I feel like it doesn’t get enough credit as it deserves.”

After a suspension of several days, Baker returned to All Elite Wrestling programming to resume her rivalry with Mercedes Mone. The two will face off at the AEW All-In London with the TBS Championship on the line. For her part, Deonna Purrazzo continues to feud with Thunder Rosa, whom she has beaten in three consecutive fights. So, what do you think? Is Baker to blame for Rhodes leaving AEW?
