Did Cody Rhodes just pull off the biggest surprise in AEW history with his family's debut?

As it is already known, Cody Rhodes comes from a family with a lot of presence in the world of wrestling. His father, Dusty, started the legacy of this surname and both The American Nightmare and his brother, Dustin Rhodes, keep him active in both WWE and AEW, respectively. However, this does not end here.

In an interview for Sports Illustrated, Cody Rhodes spoke about his family’s legacy in wrestling. The current WWE Undisputed Champion said that his last name will continue to be linked to the field thanks to his nephews, Dalton and Dylan. With the duo debuting in professional wrestling at the end of March of this year.

Kristin Rhodes Ditto’s children made their small-scale debut in a Rhodes Wrestling Academy exhibition match on Sunday, March 24 as a team called Texas Outlaws. However, their mainstream debut surely came at an unexpected place. Dalton and Dylon took on the stage names Wayne and Wyatt Rhodes and made their debut at a dark match in AEW Collision. The two debutants continued using the name The New Texas Outlaws as they clinched a win against Aaron Solo and Jon Cruz.

The duo have already earned substantial experience at the Rhodes Wrestling Academy as they were the Rhodes Wrestling Academy Tag Team Champions after defeating The RWA Outlaws (Romero Crews and RTJ) at the last RWA Showcase event. Now it surely won’t be long before we get to see the two make their main roster debut at a promotion.

But why did the duo choose AEW to start their careers with? Their uncle, The American Nightmare is the current face of the WWE. So the Stamford-based promotion surely would’ve offered them a contract to be a part of the WWE developmental. Well, it seems like the answer to this is the pro wrestling legend, Dustin Rhodes.

The brothers followed Dustin Rhodes to AEW

Have an interesting take?

In the aforementioned interview, Cody Rhodes revealed how his nephews are very close to Dustin Rhodes. So it is possible that the new tag team decided to follow the former Goldust to the Tony Khan-led promotion. It is an excellent platform for them to earn some good experience from veterans before they can get into a promotion as grand as the WWE, where you get the most exposure.

In fact, The American Nightmare even gave an answer whether we can get to see his nephews in his fight against Solo Sikoa‘s Bloodline. He said, “In addition to that, behind the curtain are my nephews Dalton and Dylan. They’re close with Dustin, and to see them go from playing around to the point where now I can see it–it’s one of those things where, once you start, you can’t stop. They’re both at the University of Texas and more than anything, my mom would like them to finish. But I look forward to the decisions they make. They’re not ready to wrestle Jacob Fatu just yet, but they’ll get there.”

If tradition is maintained, it is very likely that Wyatt and Wayne Rhodes will become relevant wrestlers in any of the companies they become part of. Similarly, Dustin and Cody Rhodes will guide them through it. What do you think? Will the third generation of Rhodes make it big in the pro wrestling realm? Let us know in the comments.
