While he is all set to main event WrestleMania 40, Cody Rhodes to this date is still associated with Tony Khan’s AEW. For those who are unaware, Rhodes was the one who helped establish AEW along with other pro wrestling stars such as the Young Bucks, Kenny Omega, & others. It’s been almost two years since he left the promotion but it looks like he still has a soft spot for AEW in his heart. This was proven recently when he decided to share a moment from his AEW days which coincides with one of the promotion’s biggest night.

Cody Rhodes remembers AEW

Ahead of Sting’s retirement match at the AEW Revolution, the American Nightmare shared a few pictures with Sting when he was at AEW. In one of the pictures, he could be seen standing along with the legend and both of them are holding mics in their hands. In the second picture, Rhodes could be spotted along with his brother Dustin Rhodes and Sting in what looks like a behind-the-scenes photoshoot.

While he was one of the Executive Vice Presidents of AEW, the two-time Royal Rumble winner decided not to renew his contract with AEW when it expired in 2021. The reason, according to him was to continue his father’s legacy and that he wanted to “finish the story.” This meant that he wanted to win the coveted WWE Championship title, which his father was never able to win.

At WrestleMania 38, Rhodes made his return to WWE and was Seth Rollins’ surprise opponent. Since then, he has been on the rise even getting the honor of being on the cover of WWE 2k24, and is on his way to the main event WrestleMania twice in a row.

Sting’s retirement from pro wrestling is a special moment for everyone. However, the reason why Rhodes shared the photos with The Icon might be due to the fact that he shares a special bond with him.

How did Sting save Cody Rhodes?

Sting’s AEW debut deserves a special mention, especially when it comes to Rhodes’ storyline. Back in December 2020, Rhodes and Sting’s current tag team partner, Darby Allin got into a mano-a-mano with Team Taz. They needed someone to save them from the trio. At this moment Sting entered the arena and saved the 38-year-old star and Allin.

Since then, The Icon has become a mainstay at the Jacksonville-based promotion. Sting will retire from pro wrestling at the AEW Revolution on March 3, 2024.
