We have always known CM Punk to be controversial for his outspoken nature. Easily the biggest superstar of AEW, Punk has often landed in a soup for his bold statements. However, it seems like Tony Khan’s AEW isn’t willing to acknowledge his claims this time around.
In an interesting turn of events, AEW is not willing to recognize Punk as a real-world champion.

After carrying the mysterious reg bag since his return, he finally revealed details about the bag, which carried the AEW championship, which the superstar never lost.
Having claimed the title at AEW All Out by defeating Jon Moxley, Punk, in a passionate speech declared that he’s the real world champion since no beat him for the title.
Punk later sprayed the famous X logo on the title, proclaiming that it’s the “real title” and symbolizing his straight-edge sign. But Tony Khan has refused to acknowledge it, making things interesting.
According to a report by Ringside News, AEW does not recognize Punk as the World Champion. It also states that while the company has listed Punk in the roster, it does not list him as the real-world champion.
Nevertheless, wrestling fans await with bated breath as to what route AEW takes with this angle. Punk looks to defend his title against Ricky Starks at AEW Collision on 5th August. WWE Hall of Famer Ricky Steamboat plays a part as the special guest referee.
While the angle is fascinating, it all boiled down due to Punk’s outspoken mind.
Punk’s tiff with The Elite fueling the course of the narrative
After becoming a record 2-time world champion at All Out, Punk got himself in trouble in the now infamous backstage media scrum performance that caused a brawl.
For those unversed Post Punk’s scathing comments in the media involved talking about Omega, Adam Page. He later got involved in a brawl with Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks, for his comments.

This action led to everyone involved in the altercation to get suspensions. Punk had to relinquish his championship immediately. After 9 months, he finally made a return in June and is now looking to put his real championship on the line now.
