Tony Khan has been undergoing a terrible week lately. With him inviting trouble by commenting on a number of WWE higher-ups on social media, fans as well as his own associates at AEW turned their back on him. Apart from them, another departed AEW star CM Punk reportedly also hit back at Khan for his behavior.

Punk recently had to face the wrath of Khan and parted ways with the promotion. It’s no surprise that ‘The Second City Saint’ was waiting to strike back.

CM Punk and Tony Khan seemingly shared a friendly bond until Khan let him go with a dramatic explanation of the All-In brawl backstage last month. With an official proclamation, Khan fired Punk, accusing him of causing trauma and fear backstage during his fight with Jack Perry.

It came as a shocker to most fans, for obvious reasons. While they were pretty aware of Punk’s roller coaster ride at AEW, a complete departure at this point in time was completely unforeseen. However, for those who were concerned about Punk’s well-being regarding the uncertainties over his future, ‘The Best in The World’ made it clear that he’s least bothered about his contract being terminated.

Following several instances after the Tuesday Night War, where AEW Dynamite and WWE’s NXT were competing for the spotlight, Tony Khan unleashed a barrage of tweets. Specifically, Khan hit out against Triple H and a number of other WWE executives in what has been seen as a ‘meltdown’. Khan referred to Triple H as a ‘bald a*****e‘, while also bringing up Vince McMahon.

A report from Haus of Wrestling states that while he was asked to give his takes on Khan’s recent controversial comments on WWE legends, Punk noted that exactly for that reason, he’s happy to be away from the promotion (AEW). However, Punk has there things to worry about. He may not receive a warm welcome from WWE.

WWE reportedly turned down CM Punk despite hinting at his comeback

CM Punk had a decorated career in the Stamford-based company before joining forces with the Jacksonville-based promotion back in 2021. Given that Punk, 44, still has some more years left before hanging up his shoes, the notion of his potential second WWE run resurfaced.

Survivor Series emanating from his hometown Chicago was seemingly an ideal platform for Punk’s return until a report dismissed it. Now, it seems like WWE directly declined to sign on the former champion again. While Shawn Michaels, of WWE NXT, stated that he would love to have Punk on board, according to wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer, right now, it’s a big no-no for WWE to welcome the wrestler back into the promotion.

He said, “The stuff with C.M. Punk is a no for right now. It could change, but it’s doubtful it will any time soon unless business goes down or there is a huge public outcry for him that hasn’t happened.” However, he didn’t make it clear what WWE meant by those massive teases during the recent weekly shows. Small hints have been dropped that point toward Punk’s WWE return.

For some, CM Punk’s return to WWE is a no-brainer. While his comments about the promotion weren’t the nicest after he joined AEW, a Punk bump would be massive for WWE. Many want to see him confront Seth Rollins. Wrestling fans will have to wait and watch what happens.
