The reigning WWE Universal Champion, Roman Reigns has successfully been the champion of the company for over 434 days. This makes him equal to CM Punk’s historic reign as the WWE Champion, which ended after 434 days when The Rock pinned him on the Royal Rumble PPV in 2013.

Both Punk and Reigns are great in-ring workers and after Reigns 434 days benchmark, the WWE Universe wants to know which of the two athletes had a better title reign in WWE.

‘The Tribal Chief’ won his Universal Championship back in 2020, when he defeated Braun Strowman and Bray Wyatt, aka ‘The Fiend’ to win the title for the second time in his career.

Whereas, Punk won the WWE Championship when he defeated Alberto Del Rio at the Survivor Series PPV inside the Madison Square Garden in 2011. Punk reigned as the champion for 434 days before The Rock dethroned him in 2013.

The babyface run of Roman Reigns didn’t sit well with the WWE Universe and WWE was clueless on how to push Roman. However, ever since he turned heel, Reigns has had better matches and segments.

During his 434 days reign as the champion, Punk portrayed both a heel and a babyface and had a series of stellar matches with the talented roster of that time.

Title defenses on PPVs

Since winning the title, Roman Reigns have defended his coveted title 13 times on different PPVs during his reign as the Universal Champion.

The first two title defenses came against his own kin, Jey Uso, who put up a spectacular fight against his newly crowned brother but had no other choice but to acknowledge him.

Speaking on Punk’s reign- ‘The Best in the World’ defended his title a total of 14 times on PPVs, during this time Punk was involved in one of the iconic storylines in the pro wrestling industry.

During this reign, Punk faced John Cena, Big Show, Bryan Danielson, and even Alberto Del Rio multiple times.

Different match stipulations of Roman Reigns and CM Punk

Both the superstars have had their fair share of different types of match stipulations during their title reign. Recently, Reigns defended his Universal title against Finn Balor at the Extreme Rules PPV.

However, Punk had many more different kinds of matches during his time as the champion. He even defended his WWE Championship inside the Elimination Chamber against Chris Jericho, Dolph Ziggler, Kofi Kingston, R-Truth, and The Miz.

Reigns have had only one triple threat match during his title defense when he faced Edge and Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 37 this year.

Whereas Punk has had over three triple threat matches, each with different opponents, and every time he defended he won, whether as a babyface or heel.

Both the superstars are dominant champions and the difference between them is only the change of opponents. While Roman Reigns takes pleasure in slaying Kevin Owens and Cesaro. CM Punk had his fair share of tough opponents in the face of John Cena, Big Show, and Sheamus.
