CM Punk calling out Jack Perry—Is he right to be this outspoken about AEW backstage drama?

CM Punk encountered several issues while working for AEW. He had a poor reputation for instigating fights backstage, which earned him his marching orders eventually. With the emergence of the Chicago-based star’s problematic relationship with several AEW stars, several other notions popped up over his AEW run. Moreover, Punk recently discussed all the issues and explained why it wouldn’t happen in the WWE.

CM Punk recently did an interview with Fanatics Fest in which he claimed that his behavior toward a person is determined by the behavior he receives from that person. The former WWE Champion even said that he has two personas and that when AEW backstage did not treat him well, he pulled out his other persona and did not treat them properly too, which is not the case with WWE. The Stamford-based promotion welcomed him with a warm embrace which explains his changed demeanor in his second stint at the company.

Punk even addressed the folks that circulated lies involving him. The Best in the World revealed that these are the same folks who cannot accept his brilliance. Furthermore, he cited that these were the same folks who proved to be a stumbling block to his own growth.

He stated in the interview, “If you are a piece of s**t, and you act that way to me, I will treat you that way. If you’re nice, you’re smiling, you wanna have a good time, let’s have a good time, I’m all hugs. And it’s not like I’m two different people, there’s just certain people – the ones that spread those lies, the ones that say those things about me, it’s because they can’t control me, they can’t control the things I do and I say, and they absolutely hate that.”

CM Punk’s tenure at WWE appears to be going well so far, as the company has earmarked grand plans involving the Best in the World.

WWE has so far chosen Drew McIntyre as Punk’s adversary, and fans have enjoyed the feud. Everything about the feud has been masterfully developed despite Punk spending the majority of its time out on the sidelines. Nevertheless, it appears that this is not Punk’s only important conflict right now. As of today, Punk is planning to conclude his rivalry with McIntyre soon, which will most likely take place on the Bad Blood PLE.

Furthermore, according to some recent speculations, after Bad Blood, Punk could embroil himself in a new feud with Seth Rollins likely being next in line. Both former champions have demonstrated how much heat they have for each other. The Visionary exploded in delirium last year at the Survivor Series PLE in 2023 as he witnessed Punk’s iconic comeback to the promotion. Many had hoped this would lead to a personal feud between the pair. However, that did not entirely transpire. Despite exchanging heated words, the duo has failed to settle their differences in the ring. Both superstars moved onto greener pastures. However, their differences reared its ugly head once again at SummerSlam.

Rollins donned the referee’s T-shirt for Punk’s grudge match against Drew McIntyre. The former WWE World Heavyweight champion used the opportunity to indulge in some shenanigans. Unfortunately, his antics pushed the wrong buttons inside Punk’s head as he inflicted some punishment to Rollins in a decisive moment of the match. This ultimately cost the former AEW star the win. After wrapping up things with the Scotsman, Punk could look to revisit his tiff with The Visionary for another iconic feud. Nevertheless, it looks like Punk has left behind his problematic past as he casts an eye at an optimistic future.
