Let’s be honest. We are not living in the early 2000’s and pro-wrestling is not the hottest thing around. However, Chris Jericho is no mood to believe that as he continuously stokes the fire in the so-called ratings war between WWE and AEW.
Now, you aren’t exactly fighting for much when both the shows are clocking viewers below one million.
Contrast that to the Monday Night Wars, at the height of which, WWE once managed to bring over eight million viewers in front of their TV sets.

However, a ratings war is a ratings war nonetheless. Even if it’s between an upstart pro-wrestling promotion (with some good financial backing and top-notch talent, however) and a developmental brand of the WWE.
In the latest edition of this rivalry, AEW and NXT had both stacked Wednesday nights with special events.
While AEW aired the two-night Fyter Fest event, NXT reignited the Great American Bash.
Both sides put their best foot forward but it was NXT which won the ratings battle in the end. While NXT managed to bring 759,000 viewers, AEW was reduced to a meagre 715,000.
However, Chris Jericho introduced a stat which indicated otherwise.
Chris Jericho declares AEW victorious
Chris Jericho revealed an altogether different stat. He revealed the all-important 18-49 demographic where AEW had defeated NXT.
Stoked to say that #AEWDynamite won the ratings demo war again last night! You’re welcome…. 😎👍@AEWrestling #Truth pic.twitter.com/QbohRCqTMY

For the uninitiated, this involves the most valuable marketing segment for advertisers.
Many marketing experts will tell you that this is the demographic which actually matters. So if you go by what Jericho is saying, NXT’s victory is just an eyewash.
AEW won over the most important wrestling viewers which ranges from young adults to the middle aged male audiences.
AEW was fighting a difficult battle
AEW was dealt a great blow when it was revealed that their world champion Jon Moxley won’t be available for the night two of the Fyter Fest event due to a COVID-19 scare.
This jeopardized their much anticipated main-event between Moxley and Brian Cage.
On the other hand, NXT put up a mouth watering battle between Keith Lee and Adam Cole.

You can argue that the spoiler regarding Lee’s victory was an inherent disadvantage for WWE’s yellow brand.
However, it seems like this actually encouraged viewers to turn on their TV sets and watch his victory moment (Mick Foley, anyone?).
Leaving aside the entire TRP debates, it is undisputed that our Wednesdays have become a lot better since the beginning of this battle.

Both promotions have some immensely talented performers who leave it all out in the ring for our entertainment.
No matter whom you support, professional wrestling is certainly the top benefactor in this interesting situation.
