Home/WWE

AEW Homecoming was a spectacle to watch. The event gave moments worth a highlight reel and left fans excited for what’s next to come. But not everything was gold and glitter, and the finale of the show left fans utterly disappointed.

Sting is a wrestling icon. The veteran is one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, and his retirement match in March is supposed to be one of the biggest events. So when Tony Schiavone asked him who his final opponent would be, fans did not expect The Young Bucks to show up, thus implying them to be the opponent.

The decision to have Sting participate in a tag team, that too against the Young Bucks appalled fans. And it took no time for them to let their thoughts be known on X (formerly Twitter). Here are some of the fan reactions:

While AEW has yet to build a storyline around the Bucks’ interest in fighting Sting and Darby, it’s tough to imagine it still being well-received after the initial reaction to the decision. But can we call the decision to make Sting’s final match a move that no one saw coming? Well not exactly. As a veteran of the sport predicted it a few days back.

Hardy the visionary

Taking to an episode of his “Extreme Life of Matt Hardy” podcast where he talked about various topics, he also delved into his predictions for what would be the final match for the ‘Icon’ Sting. Given the fact that the Young Buck made an appearance while Tony Schiavone asked the stinger for the names of his final opponents, AEW is planning to get the 64-year-old a tag team match. And in the episode of his podcast, Hardy rightly predicted that Sting would be competing in a tag team match, partnering up with Darby Allin at the 2024 Revolution PPV.

“I could possibly see Sting and Darby in a singles match at Revolution.” “I almost feel like it would be Sting and Darby together. I could almost see Sting and Darby winning the tag titles and maybe losing them in that final match.” he said. He further added “I don’t know, there’s a couple of ways it could go. I think that’s something Sting would be up for doing. I don’t know. I think his match at Revolution is going to be a tag match. My gut tells me it won’t be a singles match.”

Well, looks like Broken Matt is also a sorcerer or a veteran with over three decades of experience. But the guess was spot on. But unfortunately, the general consensus is that the fans definitely did not want the end of a legendary career to be done in a tag match, and that too against the Bucks. Well, it just looks like it is the season of controversial bookings in the AEW universe.
