CM Punk has been making the headlines ever since he made his much-anticipated return to WWE at Survivor Series in Chicago. Immediately after his return, rumours spread about the involvement of Daniel Bryan in the axing of Punk. Former WWE Champion and AEW superstar, Bryan Danielson was invited to the Maggie and Perloff Podcast on CBS Sports Radio. 

“The Second City Saint” was fired a week after a successful AEW All In show on 25th August at Wembley Stadium. But not before a disciplinary team was assembled to make a unanimous decision on the fate of CM Punk at AEW.

Danielson confirms rumours of his involvement in axing CM Punk

In the podcast episode, the hosts talked to Daniel Bryan about his involvement in the controversial exit of CM Punk. Maggie and Perloff discussed the matter with their guest Bryan Danielson while citing Fightful as the publication behind the rumours of American Dragon’s involvement. But, Danielson confirmed the rumours.

He said, “Yeah, I’m a part of the disciplinary committee. Clearly, what happened has happened. I’m somebody who, I like CM Punk, I think he brought a lot to AEW while he was there. There is not a lot I can say about it, or that I want to say about it about. I am part of it.

Danielson, who is known for his calm demeanour clarified that he was a part of the committee. He said that he likes Punk a lot as they both have a history dating back to 2010 and even the independent circuit. But he decided against Punk as he was merely serving his responsibilities as a committee member. 

I initiated the whole drama before CM Punk fought Samoa Joe at AEW All In PPV. The match was good and made highlights but it was all marred by the controversy of a backstage fight involving Punk and Jungle Boy Jack Perry.

Tony Khan immediately assembled a team to look into the matter. Soon, it was stated that CM Punk was fired due to disciplinary reasons as he had multiple issues of backstage beef with fellow superstars.

A twist in tale as Bryan Danielson clarifies his name

Though Danielson confirmed his involvement in the decision to fire Punk, he further clarified that he was merely a member of the committee. He brushed off the rumours that stated Danielson heading the committee. 

He further stated, “There were more than three people involved in this decision, but most of them were all lawyers. To say that I was the head, I don’t even have a college degree [laughs]. I’m not in there bossing people around.” Danielson further stated that he likes Punk and wishes him the best for the future.
