Beth Phoenix back in action—Is this the comeback WWE needed to reignite the women's division?

There has been a long-standing buzz over the contract status of the WWE Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix. The female superstar who has been a trendsetter in the women’s division wasn’t in the active competition for a while. She last appeared in the WWE lore during the tragically surreal night of her husband Edge’s farewell from Toronto, Canada last year.

The multiple Women’s Champion has been in attendance of both the August 18th (2023) episode of the blue brand and the final night of the Rated R superstar to cheer him up throughout. But other than that, she mostly remained indifferent to her endeavors in the company. This reality sparked the rumor of the 43-year-old choosing the path of her husband penning a contract in AEW sooner or later. After a prolonged silence, finally, the Glamazon spilled the beans on her wrestling future.

The WWE mogul had her last full-fledged match back in at Elimination Chamber 2023, where she alongside Edge, aka Adam Copeland, clinched the victory against the fierce Judgment Day duo Finn Balor and Rhea Ripley. After staying behind the screen for a while, Phoenix announced the end of her days in WWE following a contract finish. She didn’t even sign a legend’s contract to keep the door open, at least for some sporadic appearances in the future. As this dismissing move sparked the wide rumor of her inevitable AEW jump, the star kept the fact as it was to Chris Van Vliet on the latest episode of his podcast.

Clearing all the rumors about her doomed relationship with WWE, the 43-year-old noted, ‘‘I am currently a free agent. I have a great relationship with WWE. I, I, I treasured my time there. I feel like there’s, there’s more, there’s other opportunities that have presented themselves. And like, I just, I feel, I feel the motivation right now to kind of explore and explore what, what else is out there and explore myself. But my, my relationship with WWE hasn’t changed. I have so many friends there and I appreciate and enjoy the product as I always have.”

Phoenix also gave a special shout-out to her NXT run. However, coming to her future wrestling plan and official retirement, Edge’s better half put forward quite a conflicting view.

Beth Phoenix puts her family over wrestling

Retirement is a myth in WWE. Where the stance might be true for most of the stalwarts in the business, this doesn’t define Phoenix at all. She spent over a decade after her retirement in 2012 and didn’t have many major matches in the company during the timeline as she should ideally.

One of the reasons behind this might be her contentment as a Hall of Famer performer who achieved everything she set out to do, but the main one is her commitment to her family and kids. And although it felt hard sometimes, the superstar stuck on her decision. Addressing her further move with the retired status, Phoenix mentioned she might reconsider her decision if any right opportunity knocks at her door ever.

However, still she will look up to her husband’s stance on this as family comes first to the legendary lady flag bearer of the company. When it comes to her potential move at AEW, we are still in the dark whatsoever.
