If there was ever a name in the AEW that needed no introduction, it’s MJF. Maxwell Jacob Friedman has been impressing audiences and winning hearts with his impeccable mic skills and stage presence since he first started wrestling in 2015.
The Salt of the Earth not only became the first World Middleweight Champion but also defended the title twice. So, when he threw shade at his company and hinted at signing with the WWE, fans everyone went berserk!

In order to secure an AEW World Championship bout, MJF made his comeback over the weekend by winning the Casino Ladder Match. However, appearing on Dynamite, he appealed to the Buffalo, New York crowd, and addressed Jon Moxley by saying, “Let’s get this straight, Jonathan. In Buffalo, New York, you believe I’m not being honest, don’t you?”
What did MJF say about the WWE?
MJF displayed excellent crowd control and almost made fans believe he was turning face – the entire crowd was chanting his name. However, the wrestler quickly slipped back into the MJF that fans love to hate, and insulted the Buffalo Bulls football team by wiping his backside on a jersey.
He continued, “Maybe I don’t care about AEW. Maybe I don’t care about these people. Maybe, just maybe, I look at the world title as nothing more than a bargaining chip that I can use for the bidding war of 2024. Maybe I take that title to a real wrestling company with real fans, and real wrestlers like my friend and hero, the American Rollercodester Cody Rhodes!”
Cody Rhodes has been a hot topic for the world of pro-wrestling this entire year- from coming clean about working for AEW without a contract, to announcing his departure from the organization he helped build, and finally appearing at WrestleMania 38, his trajectory this year has been unpredictable. Fans are all wondering – What does this mean for MJF? Is he threatening to leave the AEW?
Fans react to MJF’s bold statements
Fans on Twitter were having a field day after MJF’s controversial opinions. Many took to the social media platform to express themselves:
U know that guy really knows how to get eyeballs around him I don't watch AEW but whenever he pulls that kind of things it automatically gets my attention around him and his storylines and it's great thing for him that's how you build your character solid.

MJF just said “either make this a real wrestling company or Cody was just the first of many” but in character. The man is the best worker on the mic since The Rock full stop.
