Shawn Spears recently appeared as the special guest on Chris Van Vliet’s show. During the interview, he mentioned what was his backstage reaction after hitting The American Nightmare in the head with a steel chair. He started by saying that after he hit a rival with a steel chair, his head started bleeding.
He stated, “I just remember hitting him and I look at Brandy. And we have a little moment there. And I look back at Cody. That’s when I see the pool. I just went, ‘On sh*t!’ and I then look at Brandy and she’s kind of looking at Cody. And she looks at me and I go, ‘Sorry, what?! I gotta get out of here.”
After sharing a few glimpses between Brandi Rhodes and her husband, reality kicked in and he started to panic. He realized his chair shot resulted in a serious head injury. He rushed backstage and went to check on the injured star. With tears in his eyes, he was “profusely apologizing” to Mrs. Rhodes for severely hurting her husband.
Spears confessed he felt awful about hurting the former AEW star. And despite the whole segment being Cody Rhodes’ idea, he decided to take the blame for the accident. He confessed he was the one who executed the chair shot, so he was the one to be blamed.

In addition, he also mentioned that though The American Nightmare ended up having a concussion and a severely injured head, they received a pop from the crowd, which was the actual reason for doing the whole thing. So, in a way, the whole segment was successful.
