AEW Collision recently made its debut in June of this year. It has only been a little over one month and it’s already set to face this year’s biggest competition. On August 5, the new AEW Saturday Night show is going to collide with WWE SummerSlam PLE.

While many will have their sights set on how well Collision will do against WWE SummerSlam on Saturday, CM Punk said he and AEW are not interested in competing with his former employee, WWE. He presented an interesting perspective that he and his current employers follow and how they view their competition.

We are competing with what we did last Saturday,” says CM Punk

‘Second City Saint’ recently had an interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated. During the interview, he stated that AEW Collision is not going to compete with SummerSlam. Instead, they are going to put all the effort and compete with how the show performed last Saturday to drive in more results.

“We are not competing with SummerSlam. We are going to go up against college football soon. We have already been up against monster UFC cards every single Saturday,” he said. He added, We are not competing with them. We are competing with what we did last Saturday.”

He claimed that Collision’s biggest competitor is the show itself. Citing his own example, he said that he competes with no one else but himself in order to make himself better as a wrestler and a human being. That is what Collision will exactly do. Compete with itself and not the PLEs of the company’s rival promotion.

Continuing further, he stated that AEW Collision on a Saturday night is not the best for AEW. But he is fully optimistic that the Saturday Night show will become immensely successful in the long run. The show has already held its ground against UFC Saturday shows. He believes it will continue to do so no matter the hurdle.

Punk claims AEW loves competition

‘The Best in the World’ stated that a Saturday show is not ideal for business, but he thinks it’s still better than a weekday show. According to him, selling tickets to a Saturday show is way easier than selling tickets to any weekday show.

What Punk said resonates with Tony Khan. The AEW President said the same thing when AEW Double or Nothing was to go toe-to-toe with NXT Battleground on May 28. He was fully optimistic about his PPV and wasn’t afraid of the competition that WWE NXT brought with it.
