Could a new wrestling promotion finally give AEW and WWE a run for their money?

Tony Khan‘s wrestling promotion has been suffering from low viewership and ratings for the most part in recent times. Despite the numbers going downhill, he was able to secure a successful deal with Warner Bros. Discovery and AEW will be staying on TNT and TBS. However, WWE’s SmackDown will be leaving Fox and start streaming on USA Network as of October 2024.

It seems like all of these channels have now got competition as another wrestling promotion is moving to TV. So, USA Network and WBD will have to look out for another streaming service in the market trying to steal their deal.

Will Tony Khan’s AEW and WWE get a divided fanbase now?

There are many wrestling fans in the industry who try to catch up with as many promotions as possible. This allows them to watch both AEW and WWE without bias. However, the rest of the fanbase pledges loyalty to only one wrestling company at a time. For such fans, another promotion may soon be available to choose from, dividing the fanbase even further.

Fightful Select has learned that Fox’s streaming platform Tubi has shown interest in acquiring a wrestling product for its platform. Although there have been no details as to which promotion fans will be able to see on the platform, it could also be MLW.

In 2021, Tubi was interested in acquiring MLW but Fox had to get involved in a lawsuit against WWE as Stephanie McMahon was accused of interfering in the deal by pressurizing an employee to not let them take the Tuesday Night spot. Since this was a while ago, the promotion in talks may have changed, but it seems like AEW’s deals are still going strong.

Tony Khan bags another deal with WBD

What’s your perspective on:

Could a new wrestling promotion finally give AEW and WWE a run for their money?

Have an interesting take?

Not only did WBD offer a deal for Tony Khan to keep his show on its channels, giving it a home and extended opportunity to prove itself, but also enclosed another entertainment-related deal. WBD owns the rights to DC and Adult Swim. With Comic-Con approaching, the institution had an interesting announcement to make. It was announced ahead of the conference that the Jacksonville-based company will be partnering up for a brand integration with DC Comics and Adult Swim.

There were no further details given at the event except the venue, date, and timing for the same. It can be assumed that perhaps Khan’s roster could be featured in some future animations or comic books as part of these collaborations. If this isn’t the case, then we may need to wait around till July 25th to see the conference take place.

By the time that happens, the reports could also solidify even further, giving us a clearer idea of what AEW and WWE could be up against. Will the pro wrestling industry suffer from a major power dynamic change after this deal? Drop your views in the comments below.
