The world of pro wrestling is a complicated one. Fans do not take kindly to some ‘heels’ in WWE as they do too good of a job. The mention of their name itself brings about disdain from corners of the wrestling world. Moreover, their status propels exponentially as wrestling fans love to hate a bona fide star. Typically, WWE pushes these stars to the forefront in order to elevate them. However, that wasn’t the case with a particular superstar. One of the top heels in the company’s past spoke about a disappointing interaction he had with upper management. In an interview, ex-WWE star Dean Ambrose, who now goes by the ring name Jon Moxley in AEW, spoke candidly about an incident. The interaction revolved around Vince McMahon saying something that had hurt Ambrose a lot.
How Moxley was taken for “granted”
Moxley engaged in a conversation with Rick Ucchino of ESPN 1530 radio station. They were discussing his days in WWE and the difference between working with Tony Khan and Vince McMahon. He shared how he is someone Tony Khan relies on. He said, “We take a lot of pride in our work and our work ethic and our standard that we set ourselves to and the way we do a job. To be one of those guys, that’s like, reliable, kind of always there”, showcasing his dependable side and his helpful nature. He then shared how the equation between him and McMahon differed from his dynamic with Khan.

He reflected on his time in WWE by adding, “The downside is that it’s very easy to take you for granted”, hinting at the consequences he faced for his nature. He then said, “The last conversation I had with Vince McMahon, he straight up told me, we took you for granted.” . Jonathan David Good used to wrestle in independent circuits under the name of Jon Moxley. This is until he made his WWE debut under the ring name Dean Ambrose. He made his main roster debut in 2012 along with Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins. Together, they formed The Shield. After spanning a long career full of ups and downs, he left WWE in 2019.
Moxley’s relationship with McMahon was both sweet and sour when he was in WWE. But this is not the first time he talked about his experience with Vince McMahon. He had shed some light on this in his recent book, too.
Moxley’s relationship with McMahon
In his book, Dean Ambrose: The Rising Star, Moxley shared his instances with McMahon throughout his career. He shared how McMahon was pivotal in making his debut. After seeing him in an untelevised match, McMahon advised Moxley to tone down his enthusiasm and to save energy. The CEO of WWE’s involvement didn’t end there. McMahon was a major part of his career as he scripted most of his matches. Moxley had reflected earlier that his heel persona was one of the lowest points in his life, but the 78-year-old was there to help him by scripting his matches.

Also during WrestleMania 31, Moxley suffered some injuries. When McMahon got to know about his injuries he was worried for the star. However, Moxley had made it clear in 2019 that he will leave the promotion as soon as his contract expires. After that, we saw him at NJPW and other independent circuits like Bloodsport, before settling in at AEW. The wrestling community witnessed a five-star bout at AEW All Out 2023, where he defeated Orange Cassidy to win the International Title.
