This has been an eventful week for Tony Khan and AEW. AEW Dynasty did well among the fans and saw the return of Jack Perry and Adam Cole. Following that was AEW Dynamite, which shocked fans when Perry and The Young Bucks laid out Khan in the ring. On paper, this sounds like something that would easily draw in big numbers for the company. The actual figures don’t bode well for the promotion.

While the repercussions for laying hands on their boss are unknown, Khan was seen wearing a neck brace with his father at the NFL Draft. Nevertheless, a WWE legend’s prediction over the ratings did prove to be gospel.

Many business legends have given their opinion on Khan and AEW. While many side with the young CEO of the company, others have criticized his actions. Former WCW and WWE manager Eric Bischoff falls into the latter category. He’s been termed a hater despite claiming multiple times on his 83 Weeks podcast that he means no disrespect to Khan or AEW and would like to see it flourish. However, fans forget to acknowledge one thing: he’s been right. The viewership numbers for this week’s AEW Dynamite episode were released on social media. It was 683,000, which is the lowest the company has seen to date. Despite many essential segments on the show, the numbers are far too low. However, this was something Bischoff predicted.

He said on social media, “A week or 10 days ago, I predicted that #Dynamite would fall below 700k viewers before May 15.” Despite his criticism, fans must remember that he’s been in the business since 1986 with AWA (American Wrestling Association). Furthermore, he had a few notes on the whole segment.

When it comes to pro wrestling, there aren’t that many new angles a promotion can have. Wrestlers attacking their boss as a part of a prominent storyline has been done in both WWE and WCW. Bischoff said, being a part of both promotions, “If they had set this whole scene up as a parody last night, I probably would have been all about it. I would have enjoyed it.”

He compared the AEW segment to his run with NWO in WCW. In Baltimore, Kevin Nash Jackknife powerbombed him off the stage. The upcoming episodes of AEW will flesh out the angle more. So there is more scope for the storyline to evolve into a scintillating and unique spectacle. The question remains whether that will be enough to reverse the slump in ratings and set them on the right track. What did you think about the ratings? Does AEW and Khan need to improve the product?
