The first episode of AEW Dynamite 2024 aired live from the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. With Worlds End taking place less than a week ago, there were many unanswered questions fans were waiting for. Titles were earned, identities were revealed, and fans wanted to know the intention and aim of The Devil. All that and the fallout of Worlds End took place on this episode of AEW Dynamite.

AEW Dynamite 3/1/2024 Recap

Opening Video Package: The show started with a video package from Samoa Joe after winning the AEW World Championship at AEW’s Worlds End. He claimed that MJF cheated him and turned him against everything he loved. This was his reasoning for teaming up with The Devil.

Opening Segment: Once the package was over, Adam Cole’s music hit, and he came out with his lackeys. Cole was revealed to be the one behind the mask of The Devil at Worlds End. He called the fans stupid for cheering for a narcissist like MJF. Cole blamed his ankle injury on MJF and claimed that the locker room thanked him for taking MJF out.

After claiming that The Devil was here to stay, Jay White came out. After praising Cole, White expressed his disappointment in being a victim of The Devil. The Gunns interrupt, and a brawl starts with Kingdom and Roderick Strong. The Acclaimed also came out to get involved, resulting in Cole and the Kingdom running away.

Video Package: A video package of the Continental Classic Champion Eddie Kingston plays. He says that winning the tournament and facing Jon Moxley gave him a renewed level of confidence.

Dante Martin vs. Orange Cassidy for the AEW International Championship

Winner: Orange Cassidy retaining the AEW International Championship

The first match of the night was for the AEW International Championship. Both Cassidy and Martin showed tremendous skills in the ring with their acrobatic moves. After a great opening match, Cassidy landed the Orange Punch for the pin. Cassidy retained the AEW International Championship.

Post-match: Hook and Danhausen came out to the ring. With no words exchanged, Orange and Dante shake hands.

In-ring Segment: Private Party returns and stake their claim on the Tag Team division. According to the duo, the division was lacking flavor. Ending the segment, they issue a notice to FTR, the Hardys, and the Young Bucks.

Backstage Segment: Renee Paquette interviews Toni Storm, who expresses her displeasure about being in New Jersey for some cheap heat.

Backstage Segment: Renee Paquette interviews Swerve Strickland and Prince Nana. Strickland claims that 2024 will see him as the AEW World Champion. Following this, he issues a warning to Samoa Joe.

Mariah May vs. Queen Aminata

Winner: Mariah May

Mariah May makes her AEW in-ring debut on the first episode of 2024. Despite putting on a splendid match, Aminata was no match against the new member of the roster, May. Hitting her finisher called May Day, May picked up the victory via pinfall.

Post-match: Renee Paquette interviews May after her victory, and just like Storm, May insults New Jersey. This results in Deonna Purrazzo coming out. As a Jersey native, she takes out May with a big boot.

In-ring Segment: Christian Cage, Killswitch, Nick Wayne, and Shanna Wayne take the ring. Interviewed by Tony Schiavone, Cage talks about his victory at Worlds End. He talks about his match with Adam Copeland and how he’s 2-0. Cage issues a warning to Copeland and any wrestler who is after his title.

Darby Allin vs. Konosuke Takeshita

Winner: Konosuke Takeshita

After helping Sting and Chris Jericho win at Worlds End, this was a fast-paced, equally matched match. Both men displayed great in-ring skills, countering each other with high-flying moves. However, Takeshita landed a running knee for the pinfall win on Allin.

Brian Cage vs. Bryan Keith vs. El Hijo del Vikingo vs. Trent Beretta in a Fatal Four-way for the AEW Continental Crown #1 Contender’s Match

Winner: Trent Beretta

The big match of the night started with Eddie Kingston on commentary. The four men were fighting for the #1 contender’s spot. With multiple wrestling styles, the match was entertaining, with the crowd cheering, “This is awesome.” Beretta hit the Dudebuster on Bryan Keith for the pinfall victory. Beretta will be facing Kingston for the AEW Continental Crow. Throughout the match, Kingston claimed that he didn’t care who won.

Daniel Garcia vs. Swerve Strickland

Winner: Swerve Strickland

After claiming to become the AEW World Champion in 2024, this was Strickland’s time to shine. While Strickland had the upper hand throughout the match, Daniel Garcia could hold his own. The match soon went to the outside with the ringside table almost being destroyed in the process. This match was evenly matched, moving into overtime for the show. Despite putting in all his effort, Strickland had multiple near falls. Finally, after his hitting his JML Driver, Strickland was able to pick up the win.

Post-match: Hangman Page came out after Strickland won, and the two began to brawl. This required security and officials to break them apart as the show went off air. The two have beef and history, and they weren’t ready to hide it.
