AEW fans just witnessed what they are calling the company’s best PPV: Double or Nothing. On the company’s fifth anniversary, the show ended with a bang. Not only did The Elite win, but complete and utter chaos was witnessed, including Jack Perry being set on fire. However, now that regular programming is resuming, fans have a couple of questions. This is regarding the contracts of Britt Baker and Ricky Starks.
For months now, their AEW contracts have been close to expiring, with neither party issuing a definitive answer on their futures. However, fans may have gotten the answer they were looking for.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select has made a name for himself as a reliable source of wrestling information. Despite Triple H claiming the company isn’t a credible source, fans look to them for all the latest and accurate wrestling news. A fan asked him about Starks and Baker’s AEW contracts during his livestream after WWE Monday Night RAW. Sapp decided to give his opinion on the matter.
Sapp said, “As far as Britt Baker, she’s still got years on her deal.” Baker has risen as one of the most loved female talents on the roster. While being over with the fans, she is also entertaining, which may be why Tony Khan may offer her a deal that would get her to re-sign with the company. However, the same cannot be said for Starks.
He further added, “Ricky? I could absolutely see Ricky going to the WWE in the future.” Since news broke regarding Starks’ contract expiring, fans have questioned if he will move. The fact that Starks openly said he feels undervalued in the company didn’t help the situation. Many AEW fans have even pinpointed where Starks’ AEW run went on the decline.

Starks has always made the best use of the opportunities that have come his way. His promo skills, charisma, and in-ring ability have generated comparisons with The Rock. However, unlike The Great One, he has not received the time to showcase his full capabilities. His stint in AEW has always been stop-start. He joined the Team Taz faction and became another face in the ring.

However, his charisma still managed to shine through. His FTW title reign amounted to little, as he rarely defended the title. His feud with MJF made the then-AEW World Champion look like a million bucks but nothing good came out of it for Starks. Apart from a brief AEW Tag Team Championship stint with Big Bill, he still lacks direction with TV time coming sparsely too.
This recent trend continued on AEW’s Double or Nothing PPV, where the 34-year-old was once again missing from the action. All these reasons could have made the AEW star switch to the WWE. However, the straw that broke the camel’s back was a promo affair with Adam Copeland.

During the October 14, 2023, episode of AEW Collision, Ricky Starks had a promo battle with Adam Copeland. Despite his promo being aimed at Bryan Danielson, he poked a few jabs at the former WWE Champion. This led to Copeland lashing back by calling him a “Vanilla midget” and claiming he borrowed his style from Dwayne Johnson. It was later revealed that the entire promo was unscripted, just as many AEW promos are.
However, this verbal standoff with Copeland made fans lose interest in Starks. His fan following seemed to decline following the promo, and he believes his work for the company suffered. The AEW star also blamed Khan for not knowing what to do with him. Could this be the reason why Starks moved to the WWE? What do you think? Tell us in the comments below.
