Ever since his abrupt exit from WWE in 2014, a return to the squared circle was always mooted for CM Punk. A failed attempt at UFC and a sub-par acting career later, Punk did make a long-awaited return. However, the return came in an AEW ring, albeit to one of the loudest pops. A raucous reception by his hometown followers kick-started Punk’s AEW career with a bang. And it all went quite well for the wrestler from the start until September this year, when he got himself suspended for his actions. Punk recently took a dig at himself during an MMA event.

After beating Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship, Punk attended a post-match press conference. He took direct shots at The Elites, a stable consisting of wrestlers Kenny Omega, Matt Jackson, and Nick Jackson. The trio also serves as the Executive Vice Presidents for the promotion. Punk’s comments caused a huge locker room bust-up, as he is said to have traded punches with the group, and security had to be called up.

CM Punk takes a dig at himself

Punk recently appeared as a color commentator for the Cage Fury Fighting Championships. And his co-commentators were quick to point out his ouster from the AEW roster. They took a dig at Punk’s inclusion in the injury list by AEW, joking that he was nursing a shoulder injury.

Punk came up with an immediate response, he jokingly said: “Listen, everything is hurt, I’m nursing everything”. He even went on to add, “I’m bad news you don’t want me anywhere near the locker room”.

Punk’s actions in the backstage brawl led to him getting an indefinite suspension. A third-party investigation was also launched to look into the matter. As for the tainted wrestler, his status with the promotion is still up in the air. Furthermore, he has been added to the injury list by AEW, adding to his woes.

CM Punk’s take on the controversy was definitely on a lighter note. Even he himself would admit that his actions were unwarranted and worthy of a suspension. The AEW roster is reportedly not so keen on having him back in the promotion. Nevertheless, Punk’s recent comments, albeit jokingly, do point out that he understands the magnanimity of his actions. Thus, it will be interesting to see what lies in the future for the ‘Best In The World‘.
