After winning the grueling match against MJF, Punk sat down with AEW President Tony Khan at the AEW Revolution media scrum. However, Punk didn’t have his usual smile on his face at the media scrum. Instead, the ‘Best in the World’ had teary eyes and was thankful that he is lucky to have a second chance at pro-wrestling.

CM Punk talks about the “tragedy” with Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart

Speaking of second chances, Punk confessed that there was only one person who deserved a second chance in his career, Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart. Punk confessed that he loves Bret Hart and has immense respect for The Hitman.

However, he took a shot at the WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg and noted that it is a “tragedy” that Hart’s career was cut short by Goldberg. And after all these years, Bret should be the one to go to Saudi Arabia and earn millions of dollars instead of Goldberg.

“I love Bret Hart. And Bret Hart’s career was cut short [by Goldberg]. And it’s a goddamn tragedy. Because there’s people that go over Saudi Arabia, and they get paid millions of dollars. And, you know, that, that should have been Bret.” said Punk with tears in his eyes.

Goldberg accidentally ended Bret’s career in a match at Starrcade in 1999. The two Hall of Famers butted heads in WCW where Goldberg delivered a super kick to Bret, which legitimately injured The Hitman.

Since that injury, Hart had to retire citing the post-concussion syndrome. Throughout his career, Hart blamed Goldberg for not being a “safe” worker between the ropes.

CM Punk also confessed that he is grateful that he got a second chance at wrestling, unlike Bret Hart. CM Punk is arguably having the time of his life currently in AEW.
