How different would it have been if Serena Williams had decided to pursue a different sport instead of tennis? It’s unfathomable after years of watching her dominate the tennis court with utmost grace. However, during her younger years, the 23-time Grand Slam champion once wanted to choose another sport. Which one do you think she would have excelled at? Little hint: she is ready to collaborate with a modern-day American great, who won three gold medals at the recently concluded Olympic Games in Paris.
Well, without much ado now, you can guess it’s gymnastics. No wonder Serena Williams enjoyed her time at the Olympics with her daughter Olympia, as they cheered for Simone Biles. As the spotlight shifts from the Olympics to the US Open, it’s Biles’ turn now to encourage the tennis players, and the gymnastics great is in New York, enjoying some time off at USTA BJK National Tennis Center. Williams shared an amazing snippet of her interaction with Biles while agreeing to collaborate with the gymnast on the tennis court.
In an Instagram story that Williams shared, Biles could be seen answering the question, “Who is your ideal doubles partner?” No surprises there, as the GOAT chose another GOAT to be her partner. Biles replied, “Oh definitely, Serena Williams. I mean, she is the Goat in tennis, so that would be my partner if I had to choose.” Responding to Biles’ request, Williams opened up about her own childhood wish to be a gymnast.

“I used to want to be a Gymnast but chose tennis. Lol, so I’ll definitely be yours!” she said. It would be amazing to see both of them collaborate on the tennis court. It might not be possible the other way around though, that is for Williams to try her hands at gymnastics. But you never know with these great athletes, they are capable of breaking barriers.

A few days ago, Biles had spoken about another American tennis sensation, Coco Gauff, as she had brushed away Gauff’s doubts regarding her height. During the flag-bearing moment at the Paris Olympics, Gauff had expressed concerns about the huge height disparity between her and LeBron James. But Biles thinks that’s a non-issue. She actually picked Gauff as the tennis player who would make the best gymnast. “I feel like there’s so many. Honestly, tennis players are taller than I thought. But maybe Coco,” Biles said.

Williams came to the fore to support the young Gymnast, as she said, “I think sometimes people are afraid to lose if they start winning, or they’re afraid to fail. But that doesn’t. I don’t even like the word. Like, it’s not a failure. It’s just, like, you slipped, and then you’ll get back up.” Moreover, the tennis great celebrated the moment when Biles appeared in the Time 100 list, among the most influential people of the year 2021.
As Biles made her way to the Paris Olympics in a positive frame of mind and set the stage ablaze, Williams was there to support her every step of the way again.
