Serena Williams and Simone Biles: The ultimate power duo in sports—who inspires you more?

Serena Williams has never kept herself limited to the boundaries of the tennis world. Right from the days she started to realize her global worth, the former WTA pro was always up to extend a hand of friendship towards athletes and fashionistas, among others. In the huge list of her world-renowned friends, Simone Biles is known to be a consistent support, extending her respect into a long-lasting friendship.

Serena Williams and Simone Biles have strengthened their bond to a notable extent throughout the last few years. They are not just friends but also huge supporters of each other. Biles, an amazing gymnast with 7 Olympic and 30 World Championship medals, made a comeback last year. She took a break after the Tokyo Olympics to focus on her personal life and mental health and has now made a comeback to perform incredibly well again.

Serena Williams’ daughter, Olympia, recently watched a video of Biles doing a new floor routine and got so excited that she started her own routine over the sofa. Serena’s husband, Alexis Ohanian, was quick to share this update on social media, saying, “Jr. sees this and starts tumbling over the sofa. Love to see it.” This shows how much Biles inspires not only Serena but also her family members.

Serena, on the other hand, has always admired Biles. Back in 2021, the former WTA pro wrote a message about Biles for the Time 100 list, which was then celebrating the most influential people of the year. Serena praised the renowned gymnast for her skills and honesty about mental health. She wrote, “What she embodies truly reflects the endless potential of Black women. I wish I had her to look up to when I was younger and trying to realize my dreams.”

Making it a matter of mutual respect, Biles also looks up to Serena for drawing inspiration. The gymnast decided not to defend her All-Around title at the Rio Olympics because of physical and mental health issues. Serena then came forward to support her decision and shared some wise words from her own experiences. “I think sometimes people are afraid to lose if they start winning, or they’re afraid to fail,” Serena said. “But that doesn’t, I don’t even like the word. Like, it’s not a failure. It’s just, like, you slipped, and then you’ll get back up.”
