Tennis Hall of Famer Chris Evert once blamed her menopause for ending her long marriage with the Alpine ski racer, Andy Mill. After six years of her statement, she has now revamped her stance. She has re-affirmed her experiences and shared them on Twitter for her fans to read. Evert has also made sure to advise her readers about the importance of awareness of their own bodies.

Recently, Evert shared an article on Vogue that talks about her journey through the weeks of perimenopause. While it goes without saying that the phase affected her life in a drastic manner, Evert talked about how she was fortunate to find help at the right time. Coming from a cancer survivor and a bold activist such as Evert, the article is insightful for both men and women, across all age groups.

Chris Evert wishes she knew what menopause was before…

Chris Evert blamed menopause for ruining her marriage with Andy Mill. She was married to the Olympian for 18 years before she called it quits in 2006. Since then, she has gone all out trying to educate and sensitize her audience about the complexities of women’s health. According to Evert, not just women, but men and children too must be educated in matters concerning female health. This is necessary to facilitate familial support during difficult times.

As she says, she feels upset thinking of the women who are not yet aware of this condition and are inching closer to it every day. Evert candidly states that not everyone is as fortunate to avail the necessary facilities as she could. Thus, it makes sense that she wrote about her problems in a widely popular magazine and shared it on her Twitter account. She captions the post, “An article everyone should read….”

In her article titled, “What I Wish I’d Known About Menopause Before It Hit Me With a Bang” on Vogue, Evert talks about how she felt completely helpless in the months when she wasn’t diagnosed. It was only after she met Dr. Jeffrey Braithwaite that she realized her condition was a normal functioning of the female body, and definitely controllable. She was put on estrogen to balance her mood swings, libido, depression, sweats, and other problems.

Evert and Mill, almost four decades of companionship

A mother of three, Evert now proudly admits that she and her ex-husband, Mill, are friends and will be there for each other in the best and worst times. However, she also is of the opinion that marriage is not for women who prioritize their careers.

It was in 2006 that Chris divorced her husband, Andy Mill. To this day, the ‘Ice Maiden’ admits to loving Andy Mill. After the divorce, she was married to Greg Norman. However, the marriage broke off in just fifteen months.
