6 Months After Stirring Up $185 Billion Controversy for Lionel Messi, Victoria Azarenka Turns Emotional as She Finally Catches a Glimpse of Her Idol

Lionel Messi has shaken America by signing for the MLS club Inter Miami. He stole the show on his debut with a last-minute free-kick winner which stunned sporting icons like LeBron James and Serena Williams. The soccer icon managed to steal the show again in his second match with two goals and an assist to his name. There, a longtime fan also managed to make it his match with the American club.

While Serena and LeBron couldn’t make it to Messi’s second game for Inter Miami, another sporting tennis icon from the tennis world was in the stands. A certain Victoria Azarenka made her way to Miami to get a glimpse of her idol and managed to take a selfie with him.

Victoria Azarenka has been a Messi fangirl for years. Her love for the Argentine footballer dates back to the early 2010s and since then she hasn’t changed her alliance. The Belarusian has flown to Qatar, stopped by Camp Nou, Barcelona, and now to Miami to watch her idol in different colors. Her recent tweet is good enough to sum up her love for the 36-year-old.

Azarenka got herself captured from the stands while Messi was dribbling in the background. Donning a black hat, she put on a bright smile as she excitedly watched the match. The former World No. 1 then posted the picture on Twitter with a caption that read, “My selfie with Messi (insert laughing emotic0n). My face (insert shy emoticon). Anywhere closer than that I would probably/most likely cry (insert laughing emoticon).“

Well, it’s pretty evident that Azarenka’s love for Messi knows no bounds. In fact, earlier this year she went one step further by prioritizing Messi’s jersey over her sponsor’s.

When Victoria Azarenka refused to let go of her Messi jersey

Dating back to this year’s Australian Open in January, Azarenka stunned the world by entering her training while donning Lionel Messi’s PSG jersey. Her sponsor had asked her to remove the jersey but Azarenka’s priorities were clear. She wore the same jersey to several press conferences during the rest of the tournament. In fact, her son would also join her by putting on the same Lionel Messi shirt.
